the mice are eating my tomatoes which are still green.
i'm on the verge of giving up the vegetables. the shrubs and trees are all doing well. maybe those are the better choice here, given the extra sandy soil.
more berries, nuts and fruits won't hurt anyway.
@bonifartius where did you get mice? I remember once mice ate all our tomatoe seedlings. we brought seedlings to a cottage and left them in a greenhouse the first time. it was already may and it was warm enough for plants there. and mice ate all our seedlings. they didn't eat all leaves, but they nibbled them at bottom of their stems and they all all ruined.
