i think threema is doing panic based covert marketing here. i regularly see comments in threads, often catering to a left wing view, where threema is recommended as the better, secure, messenger solution for times where fascists are at every corner.
it's from accounts which _look_ like normal accounts.
selfhost xmpp or matrix or get someone you trust to do it for you.
@McMongoose well, they don't make advertisements with this statement, but it's the context where i've seen it recommended. always in a weird way like "throw away whatsapp because they will work with xyz, use threema!".
any of these services will work with xyz if they aren't honeypot in the first place.
also, why on earth would i buy a centralized messenger?
@McMongoose not being centralized completely removes the "metadata" problem which is what really is interesting to people in power anyway. the way session does it should be fine in this regard, but i only skimmed the "lightpaper" :)
That's the first time I've heard of a service using "security against fascists" as an excuse, if I saw anything like that my first thought would be "fuck this" let alone thrusting whoever works behind it.
I don't believe 47yr old Xir to have my security in consideration, let alone basic decency
