I also agree that kidnappers initiate aggression (by definition) and hence forfeited their right to not get killed.
Self-defense is a derivative of "Owning yourself" and helping others to "self-defend" is righteous and moral. The level of self-defense is a personal judgment, but for aggression with potential of killing the victim, killing the aggressor is not an unreasonable amount of force for most people.

It isn't easy to convince the slaves that there is freedom, and that they will be better off.
Reading Fredrick Douglas (a slave who fled) and his mental struggle to free his mind (before the body) is quite a remarkable story that everyone should read. The parallels to our society are remarkable.
One thing; He brought up that a former slave in the north was doing better than many slave holders in the south. He couldn't understand how that was possible.
