Run apt upgrade in the background
Firefox won't let you continue using it even though it actually works fine
Restart firefox
It opens up a new tab with useless garbage I don't want to use

Stop doing retarded shit like this #Mozilla

@tyil i'm on the verge of switching to seamonkey or something and just not use things which don't work with that. modern web really pisses me off.

@bonifartius@qoto.org Most of the "usable" alternatives (as I do need a browser for $day-job, sadly) aren't an improvement anymore. The choices have really boiled down to #Firefox (or a derivative which suffers from all the same issues), or #Chomium (or a derivative which suffers from all the same issues). Anything else is usually "not supported" by "modern" websites and comes with issues, if it even works at all.

I hate the modern web, and I hate that there are still people praising it for the shitshow it is, and even encouraging it to become worse... And when called out they're just "interested" in new technology while ignoring all the warning signs they should've learned by now. Every single time.

my worst problem is that government issued shit always is modern web hell instead of something which works in dillo or terminal browsers. the alternative is filling out paper forms and snail mailing them around.

yeah, web people are often like this.

@bonifartius@qoto.org

government issued shit

Its not as bad as I used to remember, but its still pretty abysmal. Dutch government sites are required to do some UX testing with people with disabilities these days, and that has improved usability a lot for everyone. But compared to a Good Ol' plain HTML page its still slow, bugridden, and all around a pain to interact with. The website for student financing still has planned downtime once a week for updates. That's not a sign of competency in my opinion.

web people

B-but... I have a website too, I am web people by definition! I hope I can redeem myself in the eyes of our lord and saviour before it is too late!
