I liked this article about Finished Software, and the WordStar example. That was from an era when online updates and patches weren't yet a Thing. Once you shipped that version, that was it.

My favorite Finished Software is As Easy As spreadsheet on DOS. Very solid, no issues.

But I'd say many DOS programs were that way too. What was your favorite Finished Software?

On the Unix/Linux side, I unironically use ed and nroff sometimes today. Also fmt (from BSD) quite a lot.

I doubt any of those get patches anymore - actually, groff got an update a few months ago, but a very slow release cycle these days. Finished Software.

@freedosproject the various roffs are almost on par with tex regarding output quality. it's a shame that they are so much overlooked as "only for manpages". for example gopl.io was typeset with groff according to the authors :)

@bonifartius Yes, the Go Programming Language book was definitely written in groff. I've interviewed Brian, and I know he writes all his books in groff.

*I still sometimes write in nroff and groff. I discovered nroff when I was an undergrad and it always sparks a bit of joy to write something in *roff these days.
