relevant quote:

Install Go compiler binaries for bootstrap

The Go toolchain is written in Go. To build it, you need a Go compiler installed. The scripts that do the initial build of the tools look for a "go" command in $PATH, so as long as you have Go installed in your system and configured in your $PATH, you are ready to build Go from source. Or if you prefer you can set $GOROOT_BOOTSTRAP to the root of a Go installation to use to build the new Go toolchain; $GOROOT_BOOTSTRAP/bin/go should be the go command to use.

There are four possible ways to obtain a bootstrap toolchain:

Download a recent binary release of Go.
Cross-compile a toolchain using a system with a working Go installation.
Use gccgo.
Compile a toolchain from Go 1.4, the last Go release with a compiler written in C.

These approaches are detailed below.

@selea @kmj yes you need go, but you can bootstrap with either gcc-go or by using a go toolchain from before the self-hosting compiler.

it _on purpose_ isn't hard to build anything go.

skims through the 1984.pdf

no, it was just a subdivision called pornosec which shat out trash western-style doujin and low budget lewds on the gray market. there was computer-genned music, however

And the Records Department, after all, was itself only a single branch of the Ministry of Truth, whose primary job was not to reconstruct the past but to supply the citizens of Oceania with newspapers, films, textbooks, telescreen programmes, plays, novels—with every conceivable kind of information, instruction, or entertainment, from a statue to a slogan, from a lyric poem to a biological treatise, and from a child’s spelling-book to a Newspeak dictionary. And the Ministry had not only to supply the multifarious needs of the party, but also to repeat the whole operation at a lower level for the benefit of the proletariat. There was a whole chain of separate departments dealing with proletarian literature, music, drama, and entertainment generally. Here were produced rubbishy newspapers containing almost nothing except sport, crime and astrology, sensational five-cent novelettes, films oozing with sex, and sentimental songs which were composed entirely by mechanical means on a special kind of kaleidoscope known as a versificator. There was even a whole sub-section—Pornosec, it was called in Newspeak—engaged in producing the lowest kind of pornography, which was sent out in sealed packets and which no Party member, other than those who worked on it, was permitted to look at.

You’re alleging that criminal collusion is taking place?

@mushroom_soup while i don't like him in general, enabling this kind of trolling on twitter is one of musks good deeds.

get off my timeline / rant

> get off my timeline

there is no algorithmic timeline here. if you see something you don't like it's on _you_. you followed someone who reposted that. you didn't went though the work of looking at the whole federated timeline, blocking domains you don't like. you wouldn't be making such a bullshit statement "get off my timeline" is if you did put in the work of forming your own reality.

instead you choose to be an obnoxious asshat who thinks he get's to decide what others can do. you want life to be an echo chamber to comfort your broken soul, but others have to build it for you. eternally stuck with a toddlers capacity for emotional regulation. likely broken by your boomer parents who chose career, broken by childcare institutions who don't care for children but slap them into emotional submission. this is the only thing you learned, so you try to slap others into mental submisson. when confronted with people where this doesn't work, the only thing left for you is to scream for authority.

@rats
> Howd you write go such that you need to compile it in docker?

the lengths people go through to feel special because of their ultra fragile build environments. they _want_ the corporate java/c++ experience.

Never thought Elon Musk would do so much for the adoption of a decentralised infrastructure…

Please Elon, can you buy Elsevier ?

The bad guys being untouchable is not an excuse to punch down.
In fact, it's the very reason the perception of being untouchable is something the powerful work to maintain.

@freemo
> we went from 1.5 million jobs per day to 7.7 million jobs...
