I didn't trace the news lately, but Canadians are tough!

After a week-long drive across Canada, a convoy of big rigs has arrived in the national capital to protest vaccine mandates and Covid-19 measures. Organisers insist it will be peaceful, but police say they're prepared for trouble.

It's been dubbed the Freedom Convoy, and it's got the country talking.

The movement was sparked by a vaccine mandate for truckers crossing the US-Canada border, implemented by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal government earlier this month.

Upset with the new measure that would require unvaccinated Canadian truckers crossing the two nations' boundary to quarantine once they've returned home, a loose coalition of truckers and conservative groups began to organise the cross-country drive that began in western Canada.

It picked up steam and gathered support as it drove east. Many supporters, already opposed to Mr Trudeau and his politics, have grown frustrated with pandemic measures they see as political overreach.

wetten mitte februar gibts wieder ne ganz schlimme neue variante?

@roboneko @EdBoatConnoisseur @Tactical @Triumphoverevil365 @Vulkan69 @alex @colonelj @mar77i @robcolbert @sapphire That's a screenshot from another thread where I discussed the problem at length and booted Arch install media and demonstrated the problem, expecting that it would be the last time I ever had to explain the problem I have with Arch. I don't know if apt does it, I don't run Debian anywhere any more. All CRUX, Slackware, Plan 9.

I hate distro arguments. The point of the operating system is to operate the system, it's some shit you have to have there in order to do things, the things are interesting but pointless distro-hopping is not. People want to have these impassioned discussions about distros and it's all shit, it's still just Linux. Different init scripts, different shitty wrapper around tar (or cpio in RedHat's case, but whatever). It's bikeshedding, Linux is shit to begin with and distros are just rearrangements of that shit. It's not just pointless, it's mind-numbingly boring.

I'd rather write a goddamn accounting software suite than discuss different ways of arranging the same POSIX userspace around a 1991 clone of a 1971 kernel. It is 2022, I mean, shit, what does *that* matter? Who wants to make a Beowulf cluster? That's fuckin' cool: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beowulf_cluster . PVM3 is fuckin' cool: https://www.netlib.org/pvm3/ . ANTS is really fuckin' cool: http://ants.9gridchan.org/ . Urbit is fucking cool. Ethereum is fucking cool: https://www.ethervm.io/ . IPFS is fuckin' cool. Dicking around with distros is just installing someone else's wrapper around tar, and *arguing* about distros is just talking about LARPing as an IT guy for free in your house. The mind recoils in horror, and rightly so: it's just *talking* about doing something that is boring as shit to *do*, it's the worst waste of time and the end result is you land on one that you like and you use it to run a browser to tell people that they, too, should do menial, low-level technician shit for free so that they can repeat the process? And then they say "No, when I do menial, low-level technician shit, I prefer it to be this other distro!" and then what? Where's any distro argument ever going to go?

There's an entire goddamn internet, go portscan Russia to see if the Kremlin left a Redis cluster open to the public, write a fedi crawler (it's /api/v1/instance/peers) that does sentiment analysis (trivial) to find the saddest instance at any given point in time (it's /api/v1/timelines/public?local=true), do k-means clustering on following lists to build a recommendation engine to suggest to people who they should follow, predict stock prices by scraping news sites and analyzing the text, BUILD AND SELL A ROBOT THAT JACKS PEOPLE OFF and not a single customer will ask what OS it runs, let alone what distro. The human genome was sequenced on a cluster of Crays and there are more combined petaFLOPS on the cell phones in people's pockets than existed if you had been able to cluster every supercomputer on earth at the time, figure out something you want to calculate and start up a porn site to drive traffic and put some JavaScript on it that calculates that. You don't even need a network: put Fabrice Bellard in a room by himself with a computer and he sets a record for the largest prime number ever calculated, beating GIMPS with a single machine.

This is a long way of saying that yes, pacman sucks, but it doesn't matter really and I wish people didn't want to argue about distros but it's not my time and thus none of my business but I do not plan to argue about distros because I have never seen it go anywhere and don't want to waste my time and I am making Revolver.

Here's a heat map of how much traffic comes to FSE from each /16.

anyone of the gardening people here have a good ressource on which soil and sun different plants and herbs require? i don't want to plant stuff for which the soil is shitty, and i won't fight the soil :)

Guys!

Did you realize that those people who bring us bills and coupons and shit every day are part of this gargantuan extortion cabal that spreads suffering and pain not only in the United States of America, but all across this crazy line we call Earth?

I think it's called the Govenant or something...
