Collectivism thrives on false-dichotomies:

Nature vs. Nurture:
Genetic Determinism vs. Cultural Determinism
What about free will or individuality? Why do not all people follow the statistical mode?

Mega-corp vs. State-owned corp:
What about small business or sole proprietorship?

Pro-Thing vs. Anti-Thing
What about "it depends" or circumstantial or leaving it up to individual choice? For instance, I'm pro-marijuana legalization, even though I don't use it and am not "pro-marijuana".

Mandate or Ban
During COVID it was strawmanned that if you were against mandating masks, you must be for banning masks. All of this pre-supposes that the government must force the population to one or the other. That there must be a one-size-fits-all policy, and that everything is the public sphere. Which is actually fascist.

Immoral or Illegal
Just because something is immoral does not mean it should be illegal. Just because something is legal does not make it moral. There is a notion that morality and legality should be the same thing. This is also fascist.

Our side or Their side
"get on the bus or get under it"
I'm not on the side of anyone who has this mentality.

@dave@gleasonator.com It is up to journalism to do the work. Too bad journalists haven't done their work for a very long time now, and it doesn't look like they're going to start doing it again either.

@mangeurdenuage @coolboymew growing up we had a family on the block that called the TV "the one eyed monster in a devils box". We all laughed at them :blobweary:
my brother-in-law always jokes that DST is good for the plants on the garden, they enjoy the extra sunlight time. I love that kind of subtle nonsense.

Oh boy... I know a person working on their PhD thesis and today they switched on their university Windows Laptop to work on it, just to be greeted with a 'your university's license key has expired'-message preventing them from working on their dissertation which is due in a couple of days!

What a nightmare proprietary software is... 🤦

politics

you know, with polite diplomats and politicians i could even imagine siding with the ukraine. as it stands they have the most annoying and corrupt people imaginable. the new ambassador in germany is AGAIN saying that germany is "too slow" with delivering the gibsmedats.

the real evil shit though is that he says we shouldn't take in russians who fled the draft:

> "There are young men fleeing, who have no regrets, but still want to avoid military service and end up waving Russian flags and driving through German cities in motorcades," the ambassador told the newspaper. These are a "security risk" not only for Germany, but also "for all young Ukrainian women with their children, who in the end would have to sit opposite these men in refugee shelters".

(from german: tagesschau.de/newsticker/liveb )

this is so wrong on so many levels it's hard to take apart.

- we literally took in MILLIONS of young men from cultures much more foreign than russia. some of _those_ really are a "security risk", you can frequently read about it in the news when someone is stabbed again.

- russians seem to be viewed as subhuman by the reasoning of the ambassador. the line with the poor women and children insinuating that they all will be raped by russian beasts is a fucking classic! maybe putins "denazification" is right after all?

- i never have seen a russian motorcade - only one by turks after turkey won a football game. i never had a problem with anyone eastern european. hell i never have seen a russian flag waved anywhere. or ukrainian for that matter, that only started recently and is done by german statist npcs from what i saw.

i'd really take anything else than clown world now, thank you.

@dusnm

My mother in law uses Element/Matrix, and finds it very convenient.
Calls work, video-calls work, 1:1 chat works, group chats work.

She is not technical, but has understood the concept after a 3 minute explanation.
