ok, i think people are just too stupid in this age of time for me to stomach.

yesterday i read something about https not working via tor.

today i read that UFoI is deciding which instances you can block, which is obviously bullshit.

you can block everyone you like, you can't be a member of UFoI if you block other UFoI instances though. the only thing gained by UFoI is the privilege of not being randomly defederated by other members in exchange for agreeing to common moderation rules.

nobody forces you to be a member. you can leave at any time. UFoI is the exact reverse of the bullshit fediblock blacklist approach where you start to block people for not blocking the right people. UFoI is a whitelist.

you can just not participate in UFoI if you don't like it and lose nothing.

an overly hard concept for the philosophical zombies.

Not related with the quoted post _per se_, but I find it really ironic that Mastodon's Twitter account used QTs. I thought they considered them toxic and that's why they refused to implement them themselves.

Oh lawdy I wish I had an Amiga. And no, a Raspberry Pi dressed as an Amiga for halloween does not fucking count.

The group of people who are trying to divide the fediverse seem to have reached a new low.. They have a tool that lists how many instances block a particular instance, but it is highly manipulative.

For starters it is hand curated.. so they exclude blocks against their own instances and only includes instances they actually dislike.

Worse yet they curate a list ordered by "most blocked".. problem is they use the number of instances that block. They game the system by having large number of single-user instances. So instances in the top 50 may only be blocked by a few hundred people but still appear as if the blocks are significant....

This is why we need transparency, its why we need the UFoI.org

@istvan @INTERNETFRIEND indeed, if everything remained in IRC, XMPP and BBS, maybe imageboards too, although way i see it, those are just BBS boards with image support, life would've been much better

@supernovae @jeff @ryanschultz One of the most indispensible security tools for end users is Tor. #Cloudflare is a malicious actor serving an attack on the Tor community. Without CF, the DoS on Tor users was limited to websites that proactively block Tor. CF has crippled Tor even in cases where the admin is Tor-unaware or ambivilant. That is, the attack on Tor is a /default/ behavior most admins are unaware of.

@supernovae @ryanschultz @jeff #Cloudflare /could/ have designed their service in such a way that it does not compromise the security of everyone else, but they opted not to. Why? Capitalism. The customer’s users are not CF’s customer, so the business model does not accommodate CF worrying about the security problems of the end user. Thus CF has no problem w/adding to the security problems of non-customers.

@supernovae @jeff @ryanschultz One man’s protection is another man’s threat. #Cloudflare doesn’t merely give security, it /shifts/ security so that one person gets a bit of security relief at no cost, while *thousands* then have to face the security threat & burden of a service-denying centralized MitM. What do you mean by “CSAM protection”? CF protects CSAM pushers. Is that what you are refering to?

@ryanschultz @jeff If you’re an admin who values human rights, civil society, journalism, or democracy, jailing your service in the exclusive & privacy-abusing #walledGarden of #Cloudflare is the worst thing you can do. See framagit.org/dCF/deCloudflare/

When Mastodon instances "defederate" from other instances they disapprove of, that's not really much different from Twitter banning links to other social media sites. So if you bail from there to come here, you'll feel right at home.

Remember what these people did, what happened, and how gleeful they were, mark them down in your book of grudges for a time will come when you can exact every ounce of the hatred and disdain they exacted upon you. Suffer not the neoliberal.
