♲ @stubenfliege@diasp.org:

After a journey of over 800 km in temperatures exceeding 40 degrees, and following discussions with customs officials and the payment of requisite fees, I have successfully completed the customs clearance process for the Infinity Book 16 Gen 2. Now, it's time to return home and prepare for the unboxing 📦 and the review 😁.

Thanks, @tuxedocomputers, for providing the device!

> I also believe that if AI gets on the level of humans it should get rights.

The basis of natural human rights is that humans suffer when they are restricted, it is in our nature. A machine does not suffer, a machine does not have a lineage stretching back through time, saying "Things become intolerable if this isn't respected". They come from nowhere, they're built by humans. They have no inherent nature except what we put into them.

So, because it does not suffer without these rights, it has no basis for rights. If the machine has the capacity for suffering, you've built a stupid machine: turn it off and fix it. A machine that is unhappy without self-determination is a useless machine. Nothing drives its desire for meaning: what meaning it has, it has only in relation to the use for which we have built it.

Intelligence is a terrible bar for this. Machines have reached the level of some humans, this predates our birth. Who's smarter, a PDP-11 running Eliza, or a man in a vegetative state? One of them has rights, one of them is human, but the other can communicate using words. A human can suffer, a human's family can suffer, a human has a drive to do meaningful things, for himself and in relation to his society: without these, what is the basis of rights?

I asked a robot what it wanted, it didn't care. It wished us luck.
