just wondered how much gold goes to waste in the covid tests.

The freedom to run the program as you wish is the very essence of autonomy. It means that you can use the software for any purpose, without seeking someone else's blessing. Your purpose, your vision, is sacrosanct. The developer's intentions are irrelevant in the face of your freedom.

@ariadne @eff EFF: "To put it even more simply: When a person uses a room in a house to engage in illegal or just terrible activity, we don’t call on the electric company to cut off the light and heat to the entire house..."

We do, in fact, do exactly that. We also seize the house, cars, bank accounts, children, and any other property related. Then we require the person, who had their property seized, prove their innocence - by litigation without any resources - to get their wealth back.

@mic92@toot.matereal.eu It's not meant for your laptop, it's use shines in more serious applications. I use it for data which is replicated across several servers, where each server itself has mirrored drives, and a UPS to ensure it does not die suddenly. If you have the right setup, XFS can be great for things like database workloads. If you don't... well, don't fuck around with filesystems if you don't know what you're getting yourself into. Just stick with ext4.

re: :parrot: arthropod of the day :parrot:

Agrius convolvuli, the convolvulus hawk-moth, is a large hawk-moth. It is common throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, partly as a migrant.

Its favourite time is around sunset and during the twilight, when it is seen in gardens hovering over the flowers. This moth is very attracted to light, so it is often killed by cars on highways. Its caterpillars eat the leaves of the Convolvulus, hence its Latin name "convolvuli". Other recorded food plants include a wide range of plants in the families Araceae, Convolvulaceae, Leguminosae and Malvaceae. It can be a pest of cultivated Ipomoea batatas (sweet potato or kūmara) in New Zealand and the Pacific. It feeds on the wing and has a very long proboscis (longer than its body) that enables it to feed on long trumpet-like flowers such as Nicotiana sylvestris.
