Reminder that book DRM is a cancer we never needed or had for centuries and that any publisher who thinks otherwise deserves to walk the plank.

hot take: demo/self produced versions of songs often are better than the thing which goes onto the final record. cf. "men at work - down under" m.youtube.com/watch?v=D2lhmqKL and "blue oyster cult - don't fear the reaper" m.youtube.com/watch?v=8m6oDWLE

many producers can do amazing clean memorable radio stuff, but only few (john parish, imo) have a feeling for the music.

if any other country had bombed AP or Al Jazeera bureaus we'd have massive sanctions against them now, maybe a military intervention. there would've been a global outcry.

regarding the "right to self defense" spin: self defense is usually defined as "the least amount of force required".

i like how quickly we went from "he called all the way from England?" to saying "lol fag" to someone in Venezuela.

Someone on tv just said, “when we want to incentivize rich people we give them money but when we want to incentivize poor people we take away money,” and holy fuck that’s so true.

Over a year ago, a woman reached out to me with a powerful story. She was attempting to provide emergency aid for a victim of domestic violence who was fleeing abuse with her children and, in the process, had violated the Hague Convention and become an international outlaw. At the time, "Detroit," the survivor who had escaped abuse, was not in a safe enough place to risk sharing her story — even under a pseudonym.

Today, however, Detroit is safe. Although she is still forced to live under the radar of the government, with no bank account or even an ID, she is bravely speaking up about the violence she fled and how international law is used against victims.

Originally sent as emails to her friend while traveling in hiding, this article contains a window into key moments in Detroit's many attempts to escape her husband and get her children to safety.
