@bonifartius @markusl > i'm sure all the people claiming to be antifa now would love a movement like national socialism
they are often indistinguishable from the "nazis" they abhor except aesthetically
@bonifartius Easy: mass media is making them like that.

If you take a deep look into what they're saying, and take time to listen to them, people will figure out that they aren't protesting for nothing more than lifting what is restricting their freedom (and the freedom of the rest of the world, because it seems than when a country does something, so do the others) without any rational justification whatsoever except "because I say so, because a couple of persons think so".

The same happened with the yellow jackets in France (or the translation from "Chalecos amarillos" to english). Media sold them as "they're protesting because diese price is going way the fuck up", but in reality it wasn't just that but more taxes and _a shit-ton_ of other problems the government wasn't taking seriously enough, and people got fed up of Macron.

Also, the "they are nazis!1!1!!!!11" is just humongous. Why does anyone protesting nowadays towards the current governments have to be a nazi? Couldn't just be people fed up of the current politics in the world?

i really don't get how "the truckers are just poor working class people who were manipulated by evil racists" isn't regarded a fascistoid statement. it essentially says that the truckers (and other protesters) are dumb cattle. either you believe in the agency of every single human or you don't. then we can skip the democracy shenanigans at large. at least be honest.

see, if there are thousands of people are willing to protest something, they usually have weighted the risk. individual people there think the mandates are worse for them than standing there.

there may be dangerous nut-jobs among them, but to extrapolate from individuals to groups is wrong. they aren't demanding some minority to be rounded up (fun fact: that is what the "protesters are literal nazis!11" side is asking for :). they are demanding that questionable mandates are lifted. this is true for every single protest going on in the world right now.

I care about it, in that I care about human diversity, whether linguistic, cultural, ethnic, religious, or otherwise. Obviously ethnic diversity is not the sole point of focus, but one aspect of many, which the aims of globalism are opposed to. But regardless, they are all good things in and of themselves. For example, I'd be sad to see the extinction of Japanese language, or their culture, or themselves as a distinct ethnic group, just as I'd be sad to see the extinction of a species of wildlife.
i hate the web so much. i trip over batshit insane garbage like this every time i try to do even the simplest fucking shit

i get almost the impression that most webdevs completely ignore all standards except those relevant to hacking garbage together with javascript, hmmmm

@thj @Zergling_man @Hyolobrika i used to talk to nate about tech stuff but ended up on the banlist for something or the other thing. this is just how all-or-nothing politics works anymore. if you don't show 100% agreement that $target is bad, you must obviously also be $target.

around two or three years ago i would still bother to peek in to some of these arguments to ask questions about what they were going on about and it was a lot of the same shit.

:blobfoxsmug: we should just give all kids in school free food
:blobcatwaitwhat: how are you going to pay for it
:blobfoxsmug: defund the transit police!
:blobcatwaitwhat: okay that accomplishes 2% of the budget needed
:blobfoxtableflip: FUCKIN CONSERVATIVE SCUM

rant

the whole starlink thing is so frustrating

not only is a single company being allowed to fuck up astronomy and make light pollution worse for the entire planet, but even the benefits that it's supposed to have are just so weak compared to what it's advertised as

the excuse is "oh but our friendly good billionaire elon musk uwu will help people in poor countries and rural areas get access to the internet"

it's literally $100/mo
if by "poor rural areas" you mean USA, then sure
