@WashedOutGundamPilot Vivid memory of flight stewardesses letting me come hang out in their compartment, because I was flying alone, very young and they felt bad, I presume.
They gave me so many chocolates, starbursts and sodas I was sick. So I just laid on their seats with my head on one of their legs. It's an oddly pleasant memory. I suppose simply because no one but my aunt was ever so affectionate & patient me.
It's strange that one can go so far and all you really want to experience or value is just a little human connection, which you could have had anywhere else. I've got a few related to travel like that. I never really seem to remember the travel as much as I do the people who were very kind or rude to me. When I was taken to the Disney Land in Florida as a boy, I wound up entirely lost. I wandered into some kind of bistro or diner. A black serving lady who must've been in her 70's took care of me until my grandfather & the police had worked out where I was. She must've spent 12 hours in this diner making sure I was alright before she finally let me out of her sight once the police arrived with my grandfather. I very often think about her. It's funny how vivid your memory can be after so long. This would have been 20 years ago, I couldn't have been older than 9 or 10, but whenever I read the word sugar I can hear her voice & see her face saying Sugar-pie.
I think the "Find myself" crowd are after this, or something like it, an image of themselves based on how they enjoyed being treated. They just don't know how to find it domestically, so they're trying to find a shadow of it overseas that will hit the same place in their heart because of the added novelty of it being *different.*
I hope you're doing well, Rosie.
