@nierenstein Have you ever looked outside yourself and helped out the deserving? I’m pretty self-centered and hedonistic, but I always go out of my way to identify the worthy strugglers and do what I can to improve their lives, even if it’s just a little bit.

Everyone’s dying out there, the simplest pushes are the ones that yield incredible changes down the line. It may be something small like teaching a kid a skill or giving his book a read for some encouragement, even something smaller like hearing out an isolated guy’s life problems after work.

Then later down the line you get a text telling you about how that ONE late night beer became a fulcrum point that altered their life for years.

Similarly, Sweden had a strong eugenics program in the first half of the 20th century, primarily driven by the social-democratic party (which is the reason it has been suppressed for decades).

"Mentally Weak" included people who seemed lazy, promiscuous, angry, aggressive, quiet, loud, and so on. Once in the mental institutions, first sterilization, then experimentation (too often fatal) and a lot of lobotomies.

Not until 1970s were the last remnants closed down.
