Former Cabinet Minister George Eustice tells the Commons the Australia trade deal "is not actually a very good deal for the UK" blaming Liz Truss for "an arbitrary target to conclude Heads of Terms" by the G7 summit and "from that moment the UK was on the back foot"

Today's random picture from my #Flickr albums dates back to 1984. In those days I used colour transparency film, and one of my many unfinished projects is to scan all my old slides. This picture is from a summer holiday and shows the Mer de Glace glacier as seen from the Chamonix mountain railway.

Did you know? When Bill Clinton banned assault weapons in 1994, mass shootings dropped by 43%. After George W. Bush and the GOP let the assault weapons ban expire in 2004, mass shootings increased by 245%. — These numbers tell a story.

I wanted to advertise a postdoc position in beautiful Norwich, that is for 3+2 years.
We are looking for a bioinformatician, or someone who wants to become one. In the post we will investigate gut metagenomes using 3rd gen sequencing, deep learning, to investigate pan genomes and microbial adaptation, mostly using human gut time series of various host ailments.

Please retoot or send to interested parties, thanks!

I'm looking for references on papers comparing wide-and-sparse #NeuralNetworks to narrow-and-dense networks.

In other words, assume you have a fixed parameter count for a layer. Then, is it better to have more features or more "interaction" between neurons (the average in-degree of each output neuron is higher, but there are fewer neurons than in the wide-but-sparse case).

Any pointers?

@mikegalsworthy My friend’s kids are Welsh speakers. They speak English with Peppa Pig accents and intonation.

Good morning you lovely lot! I’ve woken up this morning to find that theDemocrats have retained control of the senate! It seems as though the #RedWave didn’t materialise after all! I am very happy about it. Have a lovely one. #USPolitics #Midterms #Senate

Last #fediverse comment and then I go to bed. There’s nothing watching you. You can like a picture of a cat and nothing will steer 100 more cat pictures into your feed. Nothing fills your screen with cat food and cat beds and ads for cat services. You can visit the timeline of someone #NSFW and nobody knows and nobody cares. It doesn’t feed anybody’s AI model about you and who you are and what you’re like. You’re not for sale here. The timeline: it’s chronological. There’s no steering it or reordering it or buying the top slot. It’s just like the weather. It just happens. Lean into it.

Very flattered to be quoted by Jonathan Wilson in his latest Guardian piece, referencing Trust Thermoclines and how things like the Qatar World cup drive football closer to that.

There is a second problem, however.

Top-flight football's pursuit of global brand status has priced young fans out of emotionally connecting with clubs at all. That means they don't HAVE a Trust Thermocline.
