@jdormit@mastodon.technology @freemo hopefully the schools will actually change that soon. That's actually why I never bothered with a CS degree. Plus, as a career, I'm trying to be more into Network administration. I'm everywhere.
@jdormit@mastodon.technology @freemo I think I've been duped by the school's into thinking that an extremely deep level of math is required in order to be a decent programmer. If that's true, then I might as well stop now. Lol

@Wonka I would like to eventually be wherever I'm needed. Mostly in the DNN community. Not enough modern standards are supported by that content management system. No one else will fix it, so obviously it's up to me.

@mjog then again, contact info is hard to come p
@cambridgeport90 I'm not sure why RSS being read-only is a problem though. You can always email journos?
@Wonka It is fun. As long as I stay in the open source community. Could never do it as a career. All the stupid rules will start to drive me crazy.

@jalcine Thank you. You just reminded me of the PeerTube Server and Funkwhale server I need to host, as well. I need to get Inspiration Soundworks off of Soundcloud.
Yo so let's say we didn't centralize a whole bunch of shit. Like
GitHub -> code (Go relies on GitHub to be up to serve deps)
YouTube -> people use this for daily content consumption
Spotify, Pandora -> music
et al.
How would we "discover" content? Do we truly "discover" anything or is the highly trafficked stuff just shown to us?
@mjog Can I ask a question, then? How do you then get the news from venders and organizations you follow? Most of the stuff happening in the techisphere, for instance, is on Twitter. I could use RSS, though that's a read-only means of retrieving information.
@cambridgeport90 I deleted my G+ account over the real names policy years ago and never looked back. I stopped using birdsite because of their corporate policy of tolerating fascists and hate speech.
If we don't hold these jerks accountable for their web sites, no one else will.

@kaniini @dansup @mattbk I've never been much of a fan of anything Adobe's put out; never mind their programming applications. They eventually stopped supporting ASP.net, you know, in its very early days, mind you. And ASP.NET's always been free to learn. More so now with .NET core coming around; wonder if they rethunk that?
