A former colleague who is four years into their career as a developer messaged me yesterday to say that they're applying for a new job. The application form has a required field for "Salary Expectations", but the job ad doesn't list a salary band. I was tempted to tell them to write, "I'll tell you mine if you'll tell me yours," but juniors can't afford to be snarky in the current job market, so I suggested a couple of numbers and woke up this morning wishing the world was a fairer place.
