A question for those who might want to run a #Smithereen server in the future — is support for S3-compatible object storage for storing media files a desirable feature? I'm refactoring media file storage anyway so could as well add an abstraction layer that would allow this sort of thing.

@grishka It's a nice feature for many people.
I only thought to replace pure file storage with S3-like one to ensure consistency of backups due to lack of atomic snapshots in Ext4, but for me administration of S3-like storage is too complicated, and I only consider self-hosted solutions. So for now I've choosen to stop services during backups.
