Don't get me wrong. I appreciate all the thoughts and well wishes I've gotten about PV as more Black and Brown folks come to the fedi.

But one thing I want people to understand is how demoralizing it is to see places like Gab have virtually unlimited resources and support despite being a platform that enabled the most deplorable and violent hate. The push it took to get them taken down is something my former instance experienced regularly.

I've heard for years how people love my work, but it was always a struggle for support and resources. If it weren't for a dedicated few, I would not have been able to keep it up and running for as long as I did.

I get PV was a point of note for many people for the fedi, but for my team and me, it was grind and a constant experience dealing with the worst people on the fedi day after day after day. Let that part sink in.

Am I proud of Play Vicious? Very. But for as much people talk about how much they loved us, it did not translate to the support we needed to be a permanent place in the fedi.

That context is why I'm adamant about not wanting to start a new public instance unless the fedi proves it can support a place dedicated to safety and equality.

This my favorite of my #projects. @bail, @peterpie123 and I built a lisp-like, functional and dynamic language called Waket which compiles to WASM. Took us a lot of blood sweat and tears, but it kinda works! Please drop a PR if you're so inclined!

I think I'm getting the feeling that people are beginning to get it. This place was built on the premise that it listens to people that were not listened to on the other site, so they went and built what they needed. Now that everyone has had to come here you're seeing what we needed but was ignored. This is just a site. Think of what the outside world could be like if you listened to us there too. Isn't it kinda weird that #Mastodon gets described as 'left-leaning' because we handle more strickt rules and don't tolerate things like bullying.. It could be me but I perceive this as 'normal'.

I mean you don't call people all kinds of names in a conversation on the street or in the store right? Even if you don't agree🤔

Somehow it feels the (online) standards for treating each other have declined so much over the past few years

@cillic @tinker @iarna I still can't believe how much better the instant messaging / real time chat space was in 2005-2010 than it is now, and how excited I was when Google Chat went full XMPP. I was sold, hook, line, and sinker.

Now I have to keep all of Discord, Slack, and Signal open at all times, not all of which can be present on all of my devices, and if you're not on one of those centralized services I guess I don't chat with you.

What a depressing regression.

Not to get gushy… but this is the first time I’ve made art friends on a social media that isn’t discord…
