I think much of my issue around the Content Warning culture on Mastodon, is the vocabulary. "Content Warning" has a very specific meaning in other contexts. Here, it is more like "Content Filter" or "Subject Line," to give readers a choice to expand or not.

This feels wrong, because of other contexts where majority folks have tried to express trauma or pain at even having to hear about the racism that impacted me. Feels very much like "Ban teaching civil rights, so white kids don't feel bad."

RE #introduction (migrated to )

I've been a wannabe writer since I was 6 years old. I lost my confidence along the way. (And no I won't tell you how old I am now 😆)

I've learned thru #nanowrimo and the #WritingCommunity that first drafts suck, to write for yourself, and any writing is better than none.

I now know that if I am writing I am a writer.

1/ These posts are about my experience of being a poll worker in the 2022 US midterm elections and the voter suppression that I witnessed first hand. Not adding a CW so feel free to block me or my instance.

I live in a predominately white neighborhood/precinct. I was asked to be a greeter since I have done this during previous elections.

For those that don't know, a greeter at a polling place functions much like the person that lets you into the club. If you are on the list, you can get in,

And finally I was doing stuff with an artists pose doll. None of th results was my goal, but some are pretty interesting.

Greetings Mastodon! This is officially my first Toot on this platform.

I'm a #writer and would love to join other fellow #mastowriters in the #writingcommunity.

I have a completed manuscript titled #TheDarkestDread that I hope to add more content on here soon.

I will be actively following other fellow writers and please feel free to follow me back.

You'll notice that in US society, Black people experience more repercussions for speaking about racism, than racists get for being racist:

* Kaepernick, fired and unhire-able
* Jemele Hill, fired
* Black employees at Coinbase, let go/asked to leave
* Inmates at Rikers who complained, email and letters taken away

So the "Hide your distasteful Black experiences" message gets mixed up in the "Use subjects" message, in a way that makes people understandably upset.

In the spirit of an #introduction, as suggested by my server.

I am a scholar of race and slavery in the Atlantic World from 1450-1850. I'm glad to see so many #histodons on here already!

I'm (hopefully) finishing a book tentatively titled "Captive Archipelagos: The Enslavement of Indigenous People in the Greater Caribbean, 1492-1792."

Interested in #climatejustice, saving democracy. #antiracist and #antifascist

Also #team500! Write 500 words! Edit 5 pages! Post and receive moral support!

Hello all! Anyone know how I stop hundreds of email alerts telling me each person who has followed me from Mastodon from destroying my inbox? It's suddenly started out of the blue this evening. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Okay y'all, my notifications are totally blowing up. The Union Place is officially ready to get started. There's still some dust and I may have to futz with scaling, but it should be good to start receiving users!

union.place - registration is currently wide open, I will probably require approval in the not-too-distant future but I'm willing to try open to get started.

It seems that many newcomers are introducing themselves, so here is my #introduction

I'm an assistant professor in the Wellstar College of Health and Human Services at Kennesaw State University. I'm an epidemiologist and prevention scientist who studies pediatric violence and injury, especially child maltreatment and firearm injuries. I'm most interested in informing and testing parent-directed interventions and initiatives. More info at my website (link in my profile).

Serious question: if Twitter goes into bankruptcy, what happens to the shares of its owner's other business that he offered as collateral for the loan he took out to buy Twitter?

I'm seeing a lot of people saying Twitter is going to "die," and I'm puzzling over how that might actually play out.

This should be my last introduction toot! I mentioned my professional focus ( signal analysis) in my last toot. Now, for my other non-research engagements...

I am a who uses tools like and to prototype fun projects. I have my own fleet of 3d printers and support equipment.

As a signal processing engineer, I'm also very interested in (software-defined radio). I'm working on two pet projects right now employing SDR and my maker tools for backyard and satellite signal reception. While not entirely novel end-goals, the work is very engaging and rewarding! I hope to package the results for science outreach in in the near future.

Everyone should expect neuroimaging research toots from me as well as updates on my projects and resources for and engagement in the classroom. I hope to contribute to by sharing my demos, resources, and projects for bringing innovative thinking, science, and engineering into the classroom.

I love and outdoor activities. I'm a novice in (microscope as well as DSLR) and am looking for hints and suggestions for my entry into . Any advice? Let me know! I have a strong love of and , so expect my gushing about fish on occasion. I also have a pet parakeet, so expect some bird antics along the way! It can't all be work and seriousness, after all!

From an advocacy perspective, the bottom line is that we can't just sit back and just expect things to magically change after the midterms.

We need to push hard right now and convince centrist Dems that COVID is a key economic issue, and public health protections make the economy better and fairer for all!
