With the whole #Twexit, Mastodon's userbase has jumped from about half a million in October to 7 million as of today.

All the admins are working hard to keep the lights on, but many only become aware of the problems when they happen.

Be patient. This will resolve, and the Fediverse will be all the stronger for it.

Meanwhile, if you want to help, head to your instance's /about page, and see if they have a patreon or tip jar.

I need to ask you a favor.

There’s a lot of animosity across the fediverse about my decision to allow CISA on infosec.exchange. This situation has people torqued up. I need y’all to bring it down a few notches (inside and outside of Infosec.exchange)

Please be respectful of those who have different views. Do not harass others or try to convince people their views are wrong.

I learned a long time ago that you can’t and shouldn’t tell someone that what they’re feeling is wrong: it is literally what THEY are feeling. Respect that, disengage, and move on.

In the same way that I will not tolerate others in the fediverse harassing our members, I will not tolerate our members harassing people on other instances or our own.

Please continue being awesome. To those who will be leaving us or blocking us, I wish you well.

I don't typically write about myself, and least not more than in a joking/passing manner. It was hard for me to write this piece, but it was waiting to get out for a long time. I feel I'm a bit exposed, but so it goes.

Is there a tool to which I could provide a list of the folks I follow, and my home instance, and see how many of them are on instances that block mine, or that mine blocks?

As server admins decide to defederate with each other over policy and behavior differences, I'd like to keep following folks, even if my admin decides their server is "bad."

I can move servers, but it would be useful to know if/when folks I follow get blocked this way.

I think the issue with the infosec.exchange admin is he doesn't really understand fedi or fedi's concerns.

He invited a government entity of a department that no one trusts, hasn't been transparent about what the reason for the account is past "improving security" and hasn't been transparent about what data will be gathered and what it will be used for, hasn't been transparent about how he has this government connection, and has instead just harassed folks who are choosing to make the reasonable choice of defederation.

We know that fedi is a public platform where no data is secure and can easily be monitored by the government without small government accounts, but if the government wants to join fedi, they should follow the EU and make their own instance we can choose to federate or not with.

The admin put their desire for having an official account on their instance over the needs of their users to have proper federation and is hammering down on that. It's pretty shit lol

Disqordia is blocking infosec.exchange, considering the admin seems to have government connections on top of having a government account there now, it doesn't seem safe
