Our local fox found Zoeys toy overnight and carried it past the invisible fence before dropping it. The snow tracks helped crack the case.

Hey peeps, found this in a #walmart delivery box. Any clues to what it is?

#Microsoft

Okay, I have now:

In its settings, told to keep everything locally.

Told OneDrive to "unlink" or whatever this "PC". (Because of the prior thing, the "Are you sure?" popup didn't darkly hint that I would lose access to some files, which is nice.)

Turned off every setting in the OneDrive settings that appeared to tell it to do anything.

Gone into regedit and in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\OneDrive

made a DWORD key called

DisableFileSyncNGSC

and set it to 1 (one).

We'll see if that works!

still thinks that my official "folder" has a path name containing "OneDrive", but perhaps that is benign...

50 years ago, the harbor of New York City was a sewer, filled with human trash and pollutants

But congress passed the Clean Water Act and it helped enormously, so …

… today wildlife has staged a remarkable comeback, and the water quality is high. They’ve seen humpback whales in the Hudson River one mile from Times Square, and there’s a thousand breeding pairs of heron

Smart ecological legislation works

People are like "why use the #favorite button if it doesn't boost it algorithmically?" and it's like, I don't know about any of you, but it makes me feel happy when someone favorite's something I say.

So from my perspective, you have a button whose sole purpose is that when you press it you could make someone feel a little happy.

Why wouldn't you press that button as much as you can?

#Microsoft

Oh My God, it's happening again.

I have a new Windows laptop, which means that has been stealthily taking various important-looking files hostage in its cloud, unasked for.

And now it's started sending me the threatening "we're getting low on storage space to hold all these important files, wouldn't you like to pay us money to make sure that nothing Bad happens to them?" popups.

It's horrific.

I have tried (in other times, on other computers) to turn off / remove / eradicate OneDrive, but it always comes back, and in every repetition of attempted destruction and re-emergence, it has scattered more little "Where are my files?" links around my disks, moved more of my files around, and made me suspect that more stuff has been lost.

How is this even legal?

I should just wean myself off. The thought of having to adopt to running various programs that I'm used to (the Firestorm viewer, Satisfactory, Wow, I dunno) is somehow enough to stop me from doing that, although compared to the horrors of OneDrive it seems a small enough price.

Perhaps I tell myself that THIS time I will surely defeat OneDrive once and for all!

As I settle in here, it seems like a good idea to introduce myself. I’ve been working for a long time at a Very Big Tech Company & am currently focused on user #privacy. Big fan of #travel (especially the Big Island of #Hawaii), but I’ve wandered all over the place. I love #scuba, #photography, #books, #theatre, #art, & #music. #Chemo survivor since August, 2022. #Sober since 1984. Also, #Queer & #liberal (duh).

Weirdos are my people.

Here is an American English language question - have you heard the term "Dagwood" to refer to an sandwich with varying meats on it?

If so, do you know the origin of the term?

Please #boost to increase visibility.
