Crow's claim about buying it for a museum can't be squared with Thomas's mother still living in it after the purchase, the improvements made to the home, nor with Thomas breaking the law to keep it secret.

What I love about #Mastodon is I can be vaguely in the orbit of a thread of current noted SF authors discussing the pros and cons of past noted SF authors and nobody has wanted to kill me yet.
I can't see any other social network dragging me away from that.

A bunch of tech executives using the murder of a tech executive as an excuse to defame the poor and unhoused only to discover that the murderer is a tech executive feels like a metaphor for modern politics.

If I were in a position to routinely encounter Clarence Thomas, I'd just live for the day when he got grumpy with me so I could say, "Man, who put a pubic hair on _your_ Coke?"

For me, the first sign of spring is when I’m walking around and start seeing thin filaments everywhere — the little threads of silk left behind by traveling spiders. This year the first delicate threads spotted were on campus, draped over the metal signposts around the parking lots. They’re all webbed with criss-crossing strands!

I didn’t see the spiders there, not yet, just these traces. From past experience, those signs are often populated by Theridion, so I’ll keep my open for the first appearance of the little guys.

@lzg my threshold for using a service is pretty simple:
- will I see content from people who hate me based on an engagement algorithm
- will people who hate me be able to seek out my content, or be actively shown it based on an engagement algorithm
- will people be allowed to express hate towards me without being banned or suspended

If the answers to any of those questions is "yes" then congratulations, I am not using your platform. Enjoy your nazi problem.

My queer platonic partner Luke and I are both trans and disabled, and we're trying to escape deep red South Dakota for Minnesota with our two cats (Twin Cities area is current frontrunner). We recently launched our FundRazr to try and crowdfund our escape.

Please boost and donate if you can!
Thank you!

There is a certain element of classic Greek Tragedy that I love about entrepreneurs that hit it big - that ultimately, many of them discount the role that luck and help from strangers played in their success, and come to believe they are special people blessed with great powers - and then, ultimately bet huge on another risky venture and lose it all.

I love those stories
