Received my review copy of the new book by Cory Doctorow today. Diving into it tonight. This seems like a good place to share about it.
I love this hallucination from ChatGPT -- from a prompt asking for a biography of myself. ChatGPT decided to mash up my first book, about American reactions to the violence of the French Revolution, with my later work on transgender history. The end result sounds like a pretty great project: The Reign of Terror in Transgender History. #chatgpt #histodons
So why DON'T #commandos wear #undies anyway? 🤔
From the Ministry of Silly Protocols
Seriously, it's almost impossible to overstate just how awful the Open Supervised Device Protocol is. Null ciphers, egregiously bad key exchange, a cryptographic nonce that uses just 6 bytes of entropy, MACs truncated to 32 bits, unencrypted command bytes.
This protocol never should have been released. The saddest part is that few secure facilities even use OSDP because they're all using Wiegand, which is even more insecure.

I personally like it as a reader when the author requires me to connect some dots. I definitely wrote my book with that in mind. There are some leaps the reader needs to take to get the book's overarching message.
Almost 100% of the sub 5-star reviews for my book site a confusion springing from resistance to dot-connecting.
I'm 100% okay with that.
@KirstenAnne @effinbirds @NoraReed @AbandonedAmerica Highly recommend the books by Abandoned America. I keep them out to look through often. The commentary is excellent. Helps me keep perspective on past and present.
BREAKING: Ohio voters overwhelmingly rejected Amendment 1 tonight.
So to recap:
•Red KS—Citizens vote to protect access
•Red MT—Citizens vote to protect access
•Red KY—Citizens vote to protect access
•Red WI—Citizens vote to protect access
•Red OH—Citizens vote to protect access
72%+ Americans SUPPORT access. GOP runs on culture wars because they can't win on ideas. Vote Republicans out permanently.

a couple of years ago on twitter I asked why man pages don't have examples and had a surprisingly interesting discussion https://twitter.com/b0rk/status/1427308140916363269
I learned that:
- GNU tools intentionally left examples out of man pages, because the idea was that the examples were in the "info" pages instead (which nobody knows about/uses, or at least I never heard of it in ~15 years of using Linux)
- BSD man pages do tend to have examples (for example `man grep` on Mac OS has some examples, on Linux it doesn't)
