Too many people struggle with #meditation because they imagine it to be a thing one has to do.

When in fact it is #nondoing. It is not even a struggle against the mind. It is not a struggle against the environment. Where there is struggle there is no meditation. It is allowing.

As is, we are.

As #Dogen says, meditation is the universe breathing through you.

INTRODUCTION POST: I'm an aeronautical engineer with a few overwhelming hobbies.

The first is astronomy/telescopes and making videos about them.

The second hobby pays for all that used astronomy equipment - I'm an author of an ongoing Adventure/SciFi series called RED HOPE. I price it at 99 cents because that's the lowest Amazon will let me go.

I've worked in wind tunnels, small companies and big manufacturers. Many years ago I created a shareware software program called DesignFOIL that hobbyists and professionals use for wing design. It's also a lot of fun.

Occasionally between all those hobbies and a full-time job, I get some sleep. :)

Thinking about the adaptability of #trees today. How ancient junipers like these have flowed so differently in their centuries of growth because of pressures faced long ago, from lightning strikes and buckling winds to storms lifting them partially out of the earth. The resilience needed to remake the arrangement, counterbalancing a suddenly altered centre of gravity or reshooting from a shattered, fire-scorched crown. The stories of endurance held by the heartwood.

Most people on Twitter enjoyed my 'challenges', where I post a figure from a scientific paper with a duplication.
* The duplication can be within a photo or across photos (overlaps).
* The papers are usually in the biomedical field, almost always peer-reviewed.
* I usually do not list the DOI or author name. It is about the challenge, not about pointing fingers.
* First to post the correct answer with and without an illustration win emoji awards.

Social networks need critical mass to sustain themselves.

Part of that is making sure this site has that critical mass by encouraging folks to come here.

Part of that is making sure bird site isn't a place where you provide free content anymore.

There's a good chance when you joined here, you cared more about the first of those as a hedge against bird site dying.

But if recent changes mean you want birdsite to affirmatively die, you'll need to do both.

I guess I get how Mastodon works now. Hi everyone! I'm Jorge, I'm a recent #PhD graduate from #UCDavis. I work on #TheoreticalEcology, developing #models to increase #ecological understanding and assist #management decisions in #aquatic ecosystems.

My #dissertation focused on studying the #complex #dynamics of the #KelpForest. I'll soon move to #phytoplankton and #MachineLearning, excited to see where that takes me.

Today I watched #SheSaid, based on the book detailing the downfall of Harvey Weinstein. I was held to the edge of my seat throughout the entire movie. This movie is a must-see to bring light to sexual abuse, especially male sexual abuse against women in professional settings.
