An Indigenous language in Oregon is being revived after having last been spoken in the 1940s.

Molly White bravely presented her talk, [Is Web3 bullshit?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGsllEF7w_g), at Web Summit 2022 in front of a crowd with what are likely many people deeply invested in Web3. She calls out the ubiquity of vaporware, the numerous grifts, and the entrenchment power behind the rhetoric while acknowledging the importance of the lofty goals which should inspire technologists.

hmm..
I came across the usual #user that spams crypto stuff..
How to proceed?
I would block the #account, but I think a better action might be to #report it to the remote server.. Just, I only have a report to this server option, and then forward to the remote one...
Any way to just report to the remote? Or am I supposed to report in my one anyway/no-report-at-all?

"the secret scientists don't want you to know!!" Dude have you ever met a single scientist? My scientist friends are desperate for me to know about the changing mating habits of Brown marmorated stink bugs. They're screaming at the top of their lungs to tell you EVERYTHING.

So, an #introduction? Still confused, but my interests are #earthquakes #paleoseismology #archeology #volcanos #seismology #astrophysics #kindness

Back in 2007, I built a massive fiber storage on a 10Gb network backend with a 1Gb uplink to the internet.

Took me roughly $300,000 worth of equipment to see the network speeds and read/write of my current $2,000 desktop.

The future is CRAZY.

Now that I’ve been here for several weeks, my initial thoughts about Mastodon are pretty much the same:
Love that there is no algorithm serving me posts;
Love that there is no QT - that function is more for your audience than actual communication. I like actual conversations;
Love how the need for followers is diminished. I am perfectly happy posting toots in the wind.
Love the thoughtfulness. CW + sensitive images + photo descriptions are all good.
Love not drinking from the fire hose.

On this special Friday, please recall that corporate social responsibility is utter hogwash. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/why-csr-is-bs?fbclid=IwAR085wNUOn5y_J3kN-gyG-3tdNE605qeZOUVy2kZQP2RnWMCUhVhHTADHqU

Now that we're starting to see more impersonation accounts on Mastodon, a reminder that verified websites are a thing. It's not perfect, but implementable at the individual level, and this is how we know for example which of these is the real @stephenfry - and it's not the one with the meaningless checkmark. :)

On November 25, at the urging of a far-right troll, Elon Musk banned the @CrimethInc Twitter account.

Musk’s goal in acquiring Twitter had nothing to do with “free speech”—it was a partisan move to silence opposition, paving the way for fascist violence.

Please help us circulate our full statement:

This is #introductions for me and the instance I've set up.

After being fed up with Twitter even before the Muskering, wanted a space where I wouldn't have to interact with fascists all the time.

I'm #black #polyamorous #queer #trans #disabled #autistic #ADHD and I'm interested in too many things to list.

The BeyondGender.social instance is for intersectional trans folks and their allies, to have a space free of oppression, uplift each other and share their numerous interests.

There's increasing evidence that good moderation just doesn't scale well. Having a mod to user ratio of under 1 to 1000 seems ideal. There's all the opportunity for decentralized social to be safer than centralized. And we're squandering it.

By funneling marginalized users to big instances like mastodon.cloud and mastodon.social, letting them experience horrible abuse, and then blocking them for not using CW when they ask for help.

I do not believe i have introduced my animals! This is Shadowbringer, or Shadow. He is my #servicedog who tasks and alerts for my #ptsd and is now learning how to alert for MY recently diagnosed #POTS and #nOH. He's a "phantom" standard poodle and he likes walks and cheese sticks!
