Newly obtained records show how Leonard Leo, an architect of the right-wing takeover of the courts, has been funding groups pushing to change #elections and anti-discrimination laws.

Flush with money after receiving the largest-known political advocacy donation in U.S. history, #conservative activist Leo & his associates are spending millions of dollars to #influence some of the most consequential recent #SupremeCourt cases.

In celebration of #BlackFriday, I would like to boost more #Black #artists. Here is a wonderful piece by #quilt #artist Bisa Butler:

Astronaut Scott Kelly asked Elon Musk not to "mock and promote haste toward already marginalized and at-risk-of-violence members of the LGBTQ+ community. They are real people with real feelings."

And Musk responded, "I strongly disagree"

This is a new low for him. "Strongly disagree" with what? The pronoun stuff is just him mocking hypothetical trans people. I'm so sick of this. I'm sick of this not getting called out.

Kicked the "free speech" hornets nest today: https://www.readtpa.com/p/elonjet?sd=pf

It gives you multiple columns and 's much nicer than the default.

There are wolves inside of you, wild and free.
There is also one that is schnapps drunk, another that is daydreaming about burritos, and a total slacker wolf named Terry.

This is me in a nutshell.

#COVID19 vaccines have kept more than 18.5 million people in the US out of the hospital and saved more than 3.2 million lives, a new study says – and that estimate is most likely a conservative one, the researchers say.

Developers Found Graves in the Virginia Woods. Authorities Then Helped Erase the Historic Black Cemetery.
--

The cemetery’s disappearance cleared the way for the expansion of a #Microsoft data center, despite layers of federal and state #regulations nominally intended to protect culturally significant sites.

“This is not as bad as it sounds,” a consultant wrote in2014 to Microsoft & to a county official. “We should be able to relocate these graves.”

The WHO and World Bank have produced estimates on the number of people worldwide who "do not receive the essential health services they need". The result?

3.8 to 5 billion people, in 2015. That's 52-68% of the world population in that year, denied access to this basic good.

#linguists you heard of this little factoid?

The etymology of the word shark is uncertain, the most likely etymology states that the original sense of the word was that of "predator, one who preys on others" from the Dutch schurk, meaning 'villain, scoundrel' (cf. card shark)

Before the 1600s, "Sharks" were usually called "Sea Dogs"

Which means, in a way, Card Sharks and Loan Sharks are older than Sharks.

Well, older than Sharks being called Sharks.

Creepy? Mysterious? Cozy?

Prompt: 'a group of people holding candles in their hands, by Daniel Ljunggren, wearing a white folkdrakt dress, an ancient, vril, lada' (from CLIP)

@timlee @adamdavidson Maybe I was following the wrong people on Twitter (too many political people?) but I am astonished by the numbers of fascinating folks HERE talking the Sciences, History, Journalism, and Arts - from all over the world. There’s so much more to life than red/blue. Except for their civility, I have no idea of their politics. Follow everyone you find interesting, and weed out later if you have to. It’s #FollowFriday BTW - good way to get a start.

An #introduction from another #twitterexile:
I’m Ryan. I’m a #socialscientist based in #politicalscience and #idev departments. My research focuses on #foreignaid and more recently, #metascience. I’m proud of this recent paper: https://osf.io/7vy2f/.
I’m interested in and will post about: effective altruism #ea, #rstats, #cocktails, #cooking and #baking, and local #Toronto stuff. I have 3 kids (one is 2 weeks old) and so will inevitably post about #parenting.

Even though I've been here for over a month, I realized that I never did an #introduction post. My name is Tim and I live with my family in #Madison, #Wisconsin, where I work for a #telecom company. I'm a #UWMadison alumni and #Badger fan. I love #TTRPG, especially #DND and #CallOfCthulhu, but I'm interested in everything from #indie to #OSR. I also love #film, #television, #history, #AlternativeMusic, and #reading #SpeculativeFiction, especially #pulp and mid-20th century #fantasy and #scifi.
