What’s good #BlackMastodon on this #BlackFriday?

So in Wakanda Forever there was a brief scene set in Cabo Verde. And while Wakanda is a fictional nation, Cabo Verde where my ppl are from is very real - off the coast of W Africa

Here’s 2 of my cousins feeling #BlackJoy in Cabo Verde where they live

*Fun fact: Herman Melville visited CV to do research for his classic book Moby Dick. Some of the characters in that book are based on CVs, who had a rep then for being skilled harpooners

CNN found a 2020 exchange in which George Santos—going by George Devolder—was confronted by a potential customer who looked into his Ponzi scheme and was told by Deutsche Bank that it was "a complete fraud" (Which, it turns out, was true)

For the record, because apparently this isn’t obvious to everyone out there: I believe murder is bad. I condemn the practice of murder. Don’t murder people.

Day 13 of #genuary2023 - "Something I've always wanted to learn" - I have not played a lot with noise or flow fields (which feels like basic gen art 101 to me lol) Went back to some notes I had from @djnavarro 's Art From Code workshop last year. #genuary13 #rtistry in #rstats

Oh wow. I know there have been a ton of debates and discussion about quote tweet functionality and whether it's good or bad (I'm on the "I think it would be good" side), @hildabast has put together a VERY detailed review of all research on the topic. Her take based on that: it is not a major vector of abuse, as some claim. absolutelymaybe.plos.org/2023/

Wonderful, bittersweet 10th anniversary post by KC Green about the “This is fine” dog cartoon. tumblr.com/kcggggg/70626360743

On a related dog cartoon topic, I wrote about the 1993 cartoon “On the Internet, nobody knows you’re a dog” for the NYTimes in 2000 nytimes.com/2000/12/14/technol and for my own publication on the cartoon’s 20th anniversary the-magazine.org/21/everybody-

We passed it a couple days ago, but it has been 10 years since "On Fire", the strip I did that became the meme "this is fine". gunshowcomic.com/648

Inflation-adjusted wages continue to drop.

Meanwhile, the federal minimum wage hasn’t been raised in 13 years. Adjusted for inflation, its value is the lowest it's been in 66 years.

You don’t have to be a financial wizard to see why some workers might say the hell with it.

Adam Savage refused to be tased because:
"...when we had the taser in the shop and we were looking at it in an oscilloscope we were noticing that the pulses of the taser we were working with pulsed at less than 7 milliseconds but just barely and I looked at that and I thought they are looking at the same data we did. 1/2

Dang, I've seen a lot of other folks say it, but Elk is a very nice Mastodon client. "Zen Mode" rules and Markdown support (including fenced code blocks) is such a nice feature. Lovely work, @elk

Stories like this¹ have so many similarities to the stories I've heard from older Gaels in Scotland.

It hurts to read the same shit happening across the world. Especially when folk believe the 'English is the proper language' rhetoric, like in the article; those whose minds are colonised.

Decolonisation matters. It covers more languages than English. Can't say I know how or whom to read. I figure using your native languages is a darn good step though.

one of my favorite history tidbits is official assyrian records only reporting victories so if you just went by their sources it would seem like it was nothing but glorious triumphs until they suddenly collapsed lol. the best part is when they claim to have completely defeated some enemy...only to have another later ruler again claim to have completely defeated the same enemy since in reality they were just gradually being eroded with only occasional local victories
