There was some discusstion about Martinican Rum a while back, about how it wasn't actually agricole back in those days (distilled from sugar cane juice), but was a different thing entirely, more similar to pot-stilled Jamaican rum. This entry from the 1939 edition seems not to contradict this, I guess.

@libationlegacy french guy here. In France we do have 2 types of rhum : agricole made from melasse and rhum traditionel (traditional, thus refering to historical methods still used nowadays) made from sugar cane juice and fibers fermentated. it is the same in any part of french caribean but also Thaiti.
