The area where the Dome of the Rock sits was not where the Temple stood. That is the old Roman Garrison Fort Antonia. The wailing wall (Ha Kotel) was part of Ft. Antonia. The Temple sat about 600 ft. towards the back of the Mount inside the City of David.
