Too many Black Americans swim upstream their entire lives while too many white Americans offer them advice on how to improve their strokes from the decks of our yachts.

Taken a few minutes earlier, a wider angle from a higher elevation:

The way to honor Tyre Nichols is to never stop fighting for justice, to never give up on reform and progress, and to hold fully accountable not only the murderers but the system that gave them the power and the implied permission to take his life so violently and with such evil purpose.

1890 year. The telephone tower The Telefontornet in Stockholm (Sweden 🇸🇪) connected 5,000 telephone lines.

We'll keep raising generations of fighters and survivors. One day, we'll win.

If you’d asked me what that little pink bundle was going to turn into in 19 years I wouldn’t have predicted this. (She’s more awesome than I could have anticipated.)

In today's episode of 'website security theatre' we present the US Government's "TreasuryDirect" site.

They don't just disable copy-and-paste into the password field, they disable *keyboard entry* into the password field. You are required to click buttons on this virtual keyboard in order to enter your password. Kudos to them for making high-entropy random passwords difficult to use!

Oh, and the password is also case-insensitive, probably because implementing shift-key support in the virtual keyboard would have been too complex.

Just for the record, most of us black folks DON'T trust black cops either. Do you think these black cops would have beat a white person to death. NO. I have a cousin who was a cop and a black trump supporter. He was a CO at Rikkers Island in NY and used to tell me stories of brutality in the prison while he joked about it. My disgust with the police has no color lines.

Apropos of nothing…
B or 2B hits the sweet spot for writing.
HB is too hard and light.
4B is fun, but too smudgy.

My coworkers laugh at my jokes in in-person meetings, but never in online meetings.

When I asked them why, they said that my jokes weren't remotely funny.

Innocently trying to cross the street and - uh oh! - here come @EdCriticalMass filling up Lothian Road with all types of bicycles and smiles and positivity 👍

"Cistercian Numbers" are incredibly cool

It's a rare numeric system designed by 13th century monks

Each number is a based on a single vertical stick, with patterns you draw in all four quadrants off it -- top right, top left, bottom right, bottom left

A single glyph can represent a number from 1 to 9,999

It's in my recent weekly "Linkfest" newsletter, here: https://buttondown.email/clivethompson/archive/linkfest-3-cisterian-numbers-robots-that-hug-and/

It really is as simple as that

Even if you still don't fully understand, showing respect costs you nothing

I don’t have much more to say about the latest police murder of a black man other than what I’ve boosted this morning- the rest would just be a howl of rage and despair. #BlackMastodon
