For a country that loves cats as much as Japan it's interesting that in #JapaneseFolklore there are so many terrifying #yokai cats. These supernatural felines (kaibyo) are usually accomplished shapeshifters and demonstrate a range of strange behaviours including taking on their owner's form and living in their place, having wild nighttime parties, and body snatching. I had a great-uncle who was the last person in my family to earn a doctorate; he's why I changed my surname to the old spelling and chose a name that started with N. He was murdered during the Genocide of 1915. I saw finishing my PhD as avenging him.

One of his old notebooks just resurfaced, thanks to a diligent Turkish scholar, and today, at long last, I can see his own handwriting.

Well finally back to carving after dealing with multiple snowstorms and of course the usual personal demons. This again is a carved continuous line. The stone is about 4 by 2 inches (10cm by 5cm) and is dense and rather heavy for it's size. Not a geologist but looks like Granite. I'll be experimenting on future stones by getting away from lines, like some of my others and incorporating the shape and color into an overall design.

We enjoyed exploring #BurlingtonVT's Oakledge Park yesterday. An accessible treehouse, ruins, beach, and incredible panoramas of #LakeChamplain, the city, and #Adirondacks were a lot to enjoy in a short distance. Unfortunately, I took a spill on the #ice, and this is a #52LakeChamplain view I'll be feeling for a while. Last day of winter skills with Holme Valley MRT, and we made a journey over Cairngorm. The weather cleared, and the views were majestic! I've had a great few days on the hill with these guys and gals, working for @GrahamUney .
