Hey @FediFollows!
I like your posts, it helped me a lot to find my way around the .

But I've got a metric: I try to follow about as many womes as I follow men on social media, so I stay balanced on topics and issues (I'm an engineer, and well that balance is waaay off there and you can tell by behaviour and topics).
On the birdsite it was already pretty difficult to keep balance, but in the so far I fail miserably.

So, here's my request: could you make a thread where you feature interesting feeds by women? Poltics, engineering, arts, science, shitposting, you name it. I think it would up the conversation a lot!

Hey there!

Great idea, just wondering about the practicalities.

I tend to recommend accounts about specific topics so it is often difficult to tell anything about the gender of the maintainer(s).

Also, I try to approach gender very carefully as there will be some trans and nonbinary account owners who aren't out yet, and I don't want to accidentally misgender anyone in retrospect. Most of my posts use surnames, or they/them, or use no pronouns at all.

Hmm... 🤔

One immediate list I can point you at is the Women In Tech list on Trunk (this is opt-in so all have chosen to be on the list):

communitywiki.org/trunk/grab/W

and also the Women's art account:

I'll have to think carefully about how to do such a thread, thanks for the idea!

You are absolutely right, I completely missed the non-binary aspect. Not sure if it's just my impression, but many seem to not disclose gender at all (which I fear I've seen examples of reasons for that happening, so it's not just anybody's choice but probably a measure of caution).
Anyway, it seems there is currently quite a bias towards men in many posts (I noticed that in paticular with CGI, game.dev and programming). This may reflect the distribution of users. But I wanted to share my approach, because I think it made a difference.
