From time to time when doing research I stumble upon an old prediction regarding energy. It's fascinating to compare it with what actually happened.
Like this 2017 forecast from EIA about electricity demand and coal use in China: https://insights.globalspec.com/article/6629/china-s-coal-use-to-flatten-through-2040-eia-says
They underestimated the growth in demand, to say the least.
They expected electricity demand to rise to 7k TWh in 2022, 8k TWh in 2030 and 9 TWh in 2038. In reality demand crossed 8k TWh in 2021 to reach 8,838 TWh in 2022.
@jackofalltrades There's a marked kink at the "present" line, deviating from the - at least - linear growth before. Did they write anything to justify that?
Or was that: Der Wunsch ist der Vater des Gedankens.

Sounds legit 😵💫
