Genetic evidence for efficacy of targeting IL-2, IL-6, and TYK2 signaling in prevention of type 1 diabetes: A Mendelian randomization study medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/20

@medrxivpreprint v cool - thanks for sharing @cyrilpedia - we have a stake in this IL-6 game. Actually, with knowledge of this area and pathway, I'm not that surprised to see this result. Consistent with many other chronic inflammatory / autoimmune conditions. (and #TB too! medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/20) #immunology

@gpollara @medrxivpreprint Super interesting work, and this "suggesting IL-6 antagonists do not increase the risk of TB disease" is particularly important given what we know about anti-TNF drugs & TB

@cyrilpedia @medrxivpreprint precisely - and this is backed up by registry data that has never shown a signal for TB reactivation with tocilizumab etc.... unlike for TNF inhibitors. Redundancy at best in this pathway, and too much IL-6 may even be bad!
