tldr: If you want to assess the shape (e.g. balance, diversity) of a rooted tree then generally you're better off using our new indices than Sackin's index, phylogenetic entropy, etc.
The article is long mainly because we provide lots of examples. I plan soon to write a shorter #mathonco blog post explaining why these indices are better than prior approaches. Meanwhile, here's a poster.
Checkpoint inhibitors beyond cancer: targets for restoring CD8 T cell function in people living with HIV.
"Our results demonstrated a marked and significant increase in TIGIT CD8+ T-cells, particularly within the central memory compartment, not ameliorated by long-term ART."

This “thought-provoking” paper exploits new #CryoET tools to examine the state of chromatin in situ, finding that nucleosomes in baker’s yeast cells are different from those in test tubes. https://elifesciences.org/articles/87672?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=organic
'Their personalities were fundamentally unalike, in ways that could scratch like sandpaper. The Irish critic George Moore, who hung out with them in Paris, described them thus: “Manet loud, declaratory, and eager for medals and decorations; Degas sharp, deep, more profound, scornfully sarcastic.”

Michael Faraday was born #OTD in 1791. English scientist who contributed to the study of electromagnetism and electrochemistry. His main discoveries include the principles underlying electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism and electrolysis. As a chemist, he discovered benzene, investigated the clathrate hydrate of chlorine, invented an early form of the Bunsen burner and the system of oxidation numbers. via @wikipedia

'Because the scRNA-seq dataset had been obtained using CITE-seq, a method that keeps track of cell-surface markers by using oligonucleotide-tagged antibodies, we were able to identify surface markers for human exTreg cells. We found that CD56 and CD16 (normally expressed by natural killer cells) identify human exTreg cells.'

"(...) in 2022, the College Board boasts, roughly 1.2 million students took more than four million A.P. exams in public high schools throughout the country. And when I teach a first-year writing course, or an introductory course in the English major, I inevitably spend the first few weeks undoing the damage the A.P. system does to how students understand both writing and the study of literature."

'For German contemporaries, the leitmotif of 1923 was uncertainty. At different times the country seemed on the brink of civil war, communist revolution, military dictatorship, societal implosion, or a combination of the above. As the academic Victor Klemperer noted in his diary: “Every day you say that a catastrophe must arrive, without knowing which one”.'
