The formation of a new coalition government in Spain portends big changes for the country's short-haul flights.

The coalition deal includes some 230 policy promises covering the next four years — including a pledge to limit short flights within the country.

The idea is similar to a program in France, and would scrap domestic flights where there is a rail alternative that takes less than two-and-a-half hours

German astronomer and mathematician Johannes Kepler died #OTD in 1630. He is a key figure in the 17th-century Scientific Revolution, and his books Astronomia nova, Harmonice Mundi, and Epitome Astronomiae Copernicanae, influencing among others Isaac Newton, providing one of the foundations for his theory of universal gravitation. The variety & impact of his work made Kepler one of the founders and fathers of modern astronomy, the scientific method, natural and modern science.

An old photo from near the start of my photography career. The enigmatic Nothomyrmecia macrops, a rare ant found only in mallee habitat in South Australia. This species forages on very cold nights along tree trunks to catch insects immobilized by the conditions, and I nearly got hypothermia trying to get this shot.
