@lymphomation I'm totally biased but the best entry into viewing art at a museum is alongside an artist.
I went to art museums with my dad as a kid and learned how to look at art like he did. He also spent his life working blue collar jobs with a level of artistry that awed his employers.
It's a double shame that so many feel that art is only for the elite. So many people miss out on the personal enrichment and society is lesser for that.
"Compared with multivalent viral vaccines, we envision that a single protein-based antigen that protects against all three orthoebolavirus species that have caused previous outbreaks represents a more attractive alternative, which would be easier to manufacture and store than viral vaccines and could enable widespread vaccination strategies beyond ring vaccination."

Looks like the Crick is creating an incubator in London:
"Companies with a focus broadly aligned to the Institute’s scientific goals in biomedicine will be able to occupy highly serviced state-of-the-art laboratories and office space in close proximity to the Francis Crick Institute and community of researchers, extending the reach of Crick discoveries and becoming part of a globally competitive location for entrepreneurship, technology and idea-generation."
"Move along, not much to see here. That seemed to be the message from OpenAI last week, about an experiment to see whether its advanced AI chatbot GPT-4 could help science-savvy individuals make and release a biological weapon."

"Google and Facebook have been unscathed by European privacy law. That’s not because they don’t violate the GDPR. It’s because they pretend they are headquartered in Ireland, one of the EU’s most notorious corporate crime havens. And Ireland competes with the EU’s other crime havens — Malta, Luxembourg, Cyprus and, sometimes, the Netherlands — to see which country can offer the most hospitable environment."

It finally works! 🤞🏼
Here is a table of more than 1000 journalists on #Mastodon, that updates itself – showing the ones most active, most followed etc. I took the wonderful table by @tchambers as foundation, but deleted some media organizations, so that it only contains accounts from people.
I want to make another for media accounts (and maybe even more 🤔).
Have a look!
Viable Counts – A Conical Approach
by Roberto – How many living cells in my culture? There are times when optical densities will not suffice, when you will want to have an accurate assay that determines viable cell counts. It's no wonder one of the first things a student of microbiology learns is the age-old concept of using "colony forming units" (aka as CFU) as a viability assay.

tech monopolies are to blame for why software sucks so much.
software sucks because it's all developed with the intent to form exploitative monopolies. once a monopoly is established, they turn up the user- and vendor-hostile practices.
as long as tech monopolies are viable & lucrative, software will continue to suck.
could software not suck, under capitalism? maybe, but it requires severe punishment for anti-competitive practices.
the crisis in software was a crisis in capitalism all along.
"Overall, our work establishes that G4 structures are important features of transcriptional regulation that coordinate recruitment of key chromatin proteins and the transcriptional machinery through interactions with DNA secondary structure, rather than primary sequence."
