How did #COVID19 affect the seasonality of other respiratory viruses?
It is widely known that what we call the "flu season" results from several different viruses including #influenza #RSV #corona ...
These mostly infect(ed) during the winter but the pandemic seriously disrupted their dynamics:
1) During the lockdowns/stringent NPIs they basically disappeared
2) When the measures were loosened, the viruses re-appeared off-season (surges in spring, summer, fall)

"O que é que é normal?", pergunta Joana Sá (@joanagsa).
"Este texto é sobre #normalidade, normalidade estatística e #normatividade. Vem a propósito do dia internacional da #mulher e das acusações de radicalismo que tendo a sofrer nesta altura por defender a #igualdade. Tentarei argumentar que conceitos simples de estatística são úteis para compreender que a normatividade não é “natural”.

Antigen independent metabolic effects of CAR constructs:
"Here we show that CARs differing only in the scFv reprogram T-cell metabolism differently. Even in the absence of antigens, some CARs increase proliferation and nutrient uptake in T cells."

"Clarifying how the pandemic genome first came to the world’s attention is important not just for the sake of record-keeping: if science forgets how fraught and politically messy data-sharing became, it may not learn lessons from that process."

'As part of the Innovation and Enterprise course we run, we were self-conscious early adopters of AI tools such as ChatGPT and DALL.E2 for authentic assessments. In particular, we wanted to explore new uses and applications of this technology, focusing on the design thinking process to find problems and solutions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). Here, we show how this technology can benefit (1) experiential learning, student engagement, and collaboration; (2) design research and transfer of knowledge skills; (3) creative/critical thinking and reflection skills; and (4) writing and presentation tone and style skills.'
'A spokesperson for the Bonn-based German Rectors’ Conference, an association of 269 universities in Germany, told Nature that there was no recording of personal characteristics that could identify minority ethnic groups for “understandable” and “historical” reasons, and because of data protection.'

'He believed that books should be read, and that close reading could and should leave material traces. In an ironic piece on book-borrowers, he praised his friend ‘S.T.C.’ (Coleridge), who had returned Elia’s books ‘with usury; enriched with annotations, tripling their value’, though written ‘in no very clerkly hand’.

Can’t really describe the feeling of getting my first paper published, a mix of grateful, ecstatic & hopeful! 'For all its hype, semaglutide is the stepping stone and not the final destination of a new class of obesity drugs. Just how good they get, and how quickly, will go a long way in determining whether this pharmaceutical revolution actually meets its full promise.'
The oldest topographical map in history, the Turin Papyrus Map. This document dates to 1150 BCE. It was made to guide Ramses IV's workers when they acquired stone for statues of the pharaoh. It shows the route of a valley, the surrounding hills, and the locations of existing mines.
