'Data that surfaced in the case showed legacy applicants between 2014 and 2019 were nearly six times more likely to be admitted compared to others, while donor-related applicants were nearly seven times more likely. Legacy and donor-related applicants constituted up to 15 per cent of Harvard’s admitted students, and nearly 70 per cent were white.'

Wow! 💥 🔥 🔥 🔥
This is so cool!
In this paper,
"Spatially resolved single-cell translatomics at molecular resolution", they used a tri-probe FISH system combined with in situ amplification and in situ sequencing to detect multiplex translating mRNAs at sub-cellular resolution in cell culture (981 genes) and mouse brain tissue slices (5413 genes!).
Our recommendation is to work on culture change in the use of league tables, communication about league tables, collaboration with league tables and alternatives to league tables.
In the short term we advise universities to take action individually. In the medium term we recommend joint actions by universities at the national level. The most ambitious actions require universities to join forces at the international level. This is likely to be a longer-term effort.

"What could possibly go wrong? More than three hundred overprivileged American students travelling the world on a hastily converted troopship, led by a recently sacked university professor determined to prove that travel could be as educational as any university course and keen to make money in the process."

'Um artigo publicado em acesso aberto tem o potencial de ser lido por mais cientistas e permite assim acelerar o progresso da ciência, aliás como se comprovou durante a pandemia da covid 19, em que os editores colocaram todos os artigos publicados nessa área em acesso aberto.'
'Finally, and most recently, we have become interested in understanding the interactions of Toxoplasma with mucus. When you ingest Toxoplasma, it has to get through the #microbiota, cross the mucous layer, get to the epithelium, cross the epithelium, find its way into the blood, and then into the brain and skeletal muscles. But I never really paused and thought about the impact of mucus on that initial infection until I taught #immunology. And so, now I'm interested in looking at the interaction of #Toxoplasma with goblet cells.'
'In yet another blow to student borrowers, the Supreme Court ruled Friday that US President Joe Biden’s $400bn student loan forgiveness plan, which would have cancelled up to $10,000 of debt for borrowers making up to $125,000 — and up to $20,000 for those who received a Pell Grant, a type of loan for those with the greatest financial need — was unconstitutional.'

"Nearly 170,000 workers left their jobs in the NHS in England last year, in a record exodus of staff struggling to cope with some of the worst pressures ever seen in the country’s health system, the Observer can reveal."
