''Lymph nodes (LNs) are critical sites for shaping tissue-specific adaptive immunity. However, the impact of LN sharing between multiple organs on such tailoring is less understood. Here, we describe the drainage hierarchy of the pancreas, liver, and the upper small intestine (duodenum) into three murine LNs.''

It's early & I haven't had coffee yet, but bear with me: is it conceivable that the Roberts Court has done the right thing?

#OTD 10 August 1793 The Musée du Louvre is officially opened in Paris, France.

Quote of the day:
Take the coronation orb, which has been part of the regalia presented to kings and emperors from late antiquity. The orb represents the Earth, while the cross on top symbolises that the secular power was subject to the will of God. Presumably, if people in the Middle Ages had thought the Earth was flat, they would have presented their rulers with a diner plate instead.

The fullest accounting yet shows how Thomas has secretly reaped the benefits from a network of wealthy and well-connected patrons that is far more extensive than previously understood.” #SCOTUS

People associate Hawaiʻi with tropical conditions but rainfall has been decreasing for decades because of climate change, drying out the lush landscape and making it increasingly susceptible to wildfire damage.

Hi everyone, #newhere, just moved from another instance. I am a computational biologist and lab manager at Arcadi Navarro's lab in #UPF #Barcelona. I am interested in evolutionary modeling, stochastic processes and #protein #evolution. Nice to be on ecoevo.

'At São Tomé, the modern sugar plantation was born. Large-scale sugar production had already been introduced in the Canaries and Madeira, but the São Tomé plantations were even bigger and more industrial in their highly specialized tasks for workers. Most significantly, they were the first to rely entirely on African slave labor. On São Tomé, the transformation of sugar into a mass commodity went hand in hand with the chattelization of African women and men. Here was the model for the New World.'

I’m not sure what’s more depressing

The fact a Supreme Court justice can be bought so easily

The fact that many people have access to Clarence Thomas on his “paid vacations”

The fact we have to multiply that by at least 38

Or the fact that it’s basically only one news organization that’s has been investigating this rampant corruption

Disgusting. Infuriating.

“During his three decades on the Supreme Court, Clarence Thomas has enjoyed steady access to a lifestyle most Americans can only imagine. A cadre of industry titans and ultrawealthy executives have treated him to far-flung vacations aboard their yachts, ushered him into the premium suites at sporting events and sent their private jets to fetch him — including, on more than one occasion, an entire 737.“

I don’t understand this. It feels so very very wrong for there to be wildfires in a lush paradise like Hawaii. Though I do know that the Big Island of Hawaii has many different ecosystems and climate zones… I don’t think fire is a normal thing there either.

Repost from climate historian M Herrera from the bird site:
“Historic #heatwave in #Japan, hundreds of records are pulverized.
80 records were broken yesterday, many more today. Yesterday highest Min. temperatures.

“…and today much worse. 31 all time records broken including 35.4C at Hakodate and up to 40.0C at Komatsu and hundreds records of highest Tmins. .
32.0C at Itoigawa is the highest minimum temperature ever recorded in Japanese climatic history.
Unprecedented”

"Maps 12 & 15 von Willebrand Collection Vault map (12) and inset (15) (Dresden, Germany, 1919?).

(...) von Willebrand lived to the age of 97, finally expiring at a spa outside of Kaiserslautern, an obscure minor nobleman who never escaped his internal exile to the provinces. He died in the same year as the Weimar Republic, in 1933. The Margrave’s ill-advised attempt to keep up with the times led to the von Willebrand vault map’s misidentification as Degenerate Art. As a result, almost all copies were destroyed by the newly established Reich Chamber of Culture. Only the original copper plate matrix of the vault map remained untouched in the Sophienkirche annex, together with a pair of printed copies. The church was comprehensively destroyed during the Allied bombing of Dresden in 1945. Incredibly, a controlled detonation of unexploded ordinance in the immediate postwar period led to the unearthing of the vault map plate and a pair of prints in pristine condition"
