Hello all!
We're a group of #librarians focused on helping #libraryworkers from all types of #libraries share their work with the profession and beyond. Our current project is the First Draft Matchmaker, where we connect authors with reviewers for supportive and non-judgmental feedback on first drafts prior to submission for publication.
No need to be a member of a professional organization to serve as a reviewer or have your work reviewed! Learn more: https://tinyurl.com/libwrtcoop

If I was a #teacher in #Florida, I would no longer be a teacher in Florida.
If I was a #parent of a #school aged #child I would be moving my family out of Florida.
Teachers in Florida are now under threat of a 3rd degree #felony if the allow access to any book not on the specifically state-allowed books for kids to read. According to the comments I have seen from several teachers, this list is next to impossible to obtain - so they are having to remove everything but textbooks from their classrooms.
This is oppressive dictatorship stuff. These people love calling everyone else "communists" but this is exactly the sort of things that #communist rulers have done in China, Russia, and North Korea.
@cyrilpedia Relevant reporting in the field of #translationalmedicine because not every "negative" #Trial is also uninformative...it is quite the opposite, every patient counts.

Super cool preprint from @florsheim_eb+@RMedzhitov! Mice are averse to eating allergens they are sensitized to, and there’s a neuro-immune explanation! Clinicians tell me all the time that kids significantly dislike the taste of their food allergen. (1/6) https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.01.19.524823v1.full.pdf
@cyrilpedia Not a high bar - #GeneticDrift sensu strictu isn't very important. The real question is randomness due to mutation + recombination + migration (origination rather than subsequent drift of variants) vs the external environment. "In this issue of Nature Medicine, Yap et al.4 report on a phase I trial evaluating a potent mitochondrial inhibitor5 (IACS-010759) in individuals with acute myeloid leukemia and solid tumors. Unfortunately, promising preclinical findings did not translate into the clinic as intolerable neurotoxicity precluded adequate dosing, prompting the question — what lessons can be learned from this disappointing outcome?"
Here's a cute submission for #MicroscopyMonday ❤️ Shown is a primary cilium from an IMCD3 cell labeled with acetylated alpha-tubulin in red. Smoothened, the GPCR that is activated downstream of Sonic Hedgehog signals, is shown in green. To make the heart, the cilium image was duplicated and flipped using Photoshop. Have a great week!
Interesting @biorxivpreprint by the group of Keriann Backus. They combine compartment-localized TurboID with cysteine-directed chemoproteomics to enrich cysteines of several cellular compartments using a two step enrichment strategy. This e.g. allows studying the oxidation state of many cysteines in the specific compartment. https://doi.org/10.1101/2023.01.22.525042
