In collaboration with Alison Cole and Ulrich Technau we also mapped the peptidergic #connectome of #Nematostella, by linking peptide-expressing to receptor-expressing cells.
In #Cnidaria, tissues are extensively connected via #neuropeptide signalling.

Not all fevers are due to infection. That's the easy bit through - working out when it's safe to withhold antibiotics, that's way harder.
Can be done (👇) but are there criteria / biomarkers that can guide this better?

Pachyrhinosaurus paleoart study. Been awhile since I did one in this style and saw Pachyrhinosaurus was making a buzz online recently so felt compelled to do a quick paleoart study. #Pachyrhinosaurus #Dinosaurs #Paleoart
' Carlos Nobre, who is one of Brazil’s top climate scientists, said there was a 60% chance that this year’s El Niño would be a strong one. This would be “very very worrying” for the Amazon rainforest, which sustained some of its worst degradation during 2015-16, when an El Niño event caused the dry season to become longer and left the vegetation more vulnerable to fire.'
'Story is now so valued that, in many realms, it has become compulsory—consider the recitations required of asylum seekers or rape victims, who are penalized or dismissed if the parameters of their stories do not readily conform to the genre.
And if a story betrays us? The solution, it seems, is to cast about for a better one.'
When I receiving this book, my memory flew to the years when I worked on eukaryotic protein domain annotations. Annotating A. thaliana, a model organism for plant, is part of the routine pipeline alongside with processing other organism proteomes such as Clamydomonas and others. Plant is always be an inseparable part of eukaryotic domains of life, along with human and others. Today, I'm very happy to receive this book from Adhit , my colleague. I hope it will be useful for our future works!
'To study regulators of bacterial pathogenicity that are the major drivers of infectious disease outcome, we developed scPAIR-seq, an approach to functionally analyze the effects of bacterial mutants on host immunity at single-cell resolution.'

#IDMastodon #Viralimmunology @thelancetinfdis Data were collected & analysed between April 25 - Sept 25, 2022. For 157 861 #omicron-infected symptomatic individuals
📌Cough was the most common symptom (99 032 patients)
-Sore throat (95 838 [62·7%] patients),
-Nasal discharge (69 968 [60·7%] patients)
-Fever (61 218 [38·8%] patients).
Omicron BA.5 infection was associated with a higher prevalence of systemic symptoms than BA.2 in vaccinated & unvaccinated individuals
@thelancetinfdis Omicron BA.5 infection was associated with a higher prevalence of systemic symptoms than BA.2 in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals (adjusted odds ratio [OR] for fever: 2·18 [95% CI 2·12–2·25]).

'Data that surfaced in the case showed legacy applicants between 2014 and 2019 were nearly six times more likely to be admitted compared to others, while donor-related applicants were nearly seven times more likely. Legacy and donor-related applicants constituted up to 15 per cent of Harvard’s admitted students, and nearly 70 per cent were white.'
