I have been following the latest work to quantify animal movement and behavior.

A few weeks ago, I was lucky to attend CVPR and get a feel for the latest findings and future trends in person.

I wrote down a detailed overview and some of my opinions here:

'What seems to attract some technology types to R.F.K. Jr. is his contrarianism — his disregard for conventional wisdom and expert opinion. So before I get into the tech-bro specific aspects of this weird political moment, let me say a few things about being contrarian.'

Hi all! I'm a 2nd-year PhD Student in Computer Science at Northeastern, with a focus in exploratory analysis tools for #datavisualization of high-dimensional data. I'm particularly interested in #XAI and #genomics . I'm also a practicing emergent media artist, and currently teaching myself #Blender #B3d . Fondly remembering Martin (Marty) Alan Feldman (1934-82), the unique, BAFTA-winning English writer, comedian and actor, born in London #OnThisDay. He worked memorably with Barry Took, Spike Milligan and Richard Lester, among others, and was a relentless scene stealer as Igor / "Eyegore" ("What hump?") in Mel Brooks' glorious #YoungFrankenstein (1974) - subsequently reuniting with Gene Wilder and Madeline Kahn for #TheAdventuresOfSherlockHolmesSmarterBrother (1975).

'So, in 1976, two colleagues and I organised the first meeting on DNA insertions. During this meeting, it became clear that geneticists working on bacteria, yeast, fruit flies, plants and animals were all studying the same phenomenon McClintock had discovered in her maize plants 30 years earlier.'

'Every part of Threads’ existence makes me shake my head: Twitter selling itself to Elon Musk because he offered a stupid high price; Elon Musk promptly ruining Twitter so badly that any alternative looks palatable, even one run by Mark “My other platform enabled a literal genocide” Zuckerberg; the bland, market-tested design; the thirsty grindfluencers posting with the energy of a puppy with zoomies; the looming, heavy-breathing presence of Zuck; the corporate-ness of it all.'

'Most cancers exhibit aneuploidy, but its functional significance in tumor development is controversial. Here, we describe ReDACT (Restoring Disomy in Aneuploid cells using CRISPR Targeting), a set of chromosome engineering tools that allow us to eliminate specific aneuploidies from cancer genomes'

'The new administration has also raised pay for researchers on federal scholarships and announced that it plans to increase the number of scholarships available. This is clearly good news, but there are still reasons to be worried about the future of science in Brazil. One overarching problem is the lack of a long-term strategy for scientific research and innovation, including a target for investments in science and education as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP). In this article we summarize six specific problems and challenges confronting research and innovation in Brazil, and make recommendations on how to address them.'

'Genetic elements encoded in nuclear DNA determine the sex of an individual in many animals. In bivalves, however, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) has been hypothesized to contribute to sex determination in lineages that possess doubly uniparental inheritance'
