Pls boost! Registration is open for a new one day U.K. meeting for neuronal and glial cell biology.
Inspired by successful one-day meetings such as the British Microtubule Meeting, we want a go-to event that is 1) focussed, 2) cheap to attend and 3) takes up minimal time.
Join us 15th of September in York. Talks selected from submitted abstracts with an emphasis on ECRs.

SPARC’s @hjoseph & @gtananbaum spoke on a panel at the @cern - @nasa #OpenScience Summit 2023 today. There is a need to simplify, support & reward #openscience in a way that shows the value to researchers & the broader community. Embrace incremental progress in open. Change won’t happen overnight, but just keep swimming!
'Here, we show in multiple cancer models that CXCR3+ Treg cells were increased in tumors compared with lymphoid tissues, exhibited an activated phenotype, and interacted preferentially with CXCL9-producing BATF3+ dendritic cells (DCs). Genetic ablation of CXCR3 in Treg cells disrupted DC1-Treg cell interactions and concomitantly increased DC-CD8+ T cell interactions.'

'To address this problem, Cuzick et al. used the Pathogen-Host Interactions database (PHI-base), which curates knowledge from the text, tables and figures published in over 200 journals, as a case study. A framework was developed that could capture the many observable traits (phenotype annotations) for interactions and link them directly to the combination of genotypes involved in those interactions across multiple scales – ranging from microscopic to macroscopic. This demonstrated that it was possible to build a framework of software tools to enable curation of interactions between species in more detail than had been done before.'
"There were, however, times when the biological sciences were not yet domesticated and did not march nicely in pairs on the leash of chemistry."

Cambridge analytica scandal was huge, and affecting millions of user. It didn't change the company. Will it happen again? 🤔 https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/mar/17/the-cambridge-analytica-scandal-changed-the-world-but-it-didnt-change-facebook
It’s #MethodMonday - this week we are showcasing the work of Vanessa Chong-Morrison and colleagues as they repurpose the Ac/Ds maize transposition system to efficiently characterise zebrafish cis-regulated elements in F0-microinjected embryos. 🧪🔬🔓 Read the #OpenAccess article here: https://bit.ly/3Q6SkNI
Thrilled to announce the launch of @OpenSciNigeria's brand-new website: https://www.oscnigeria.org/! Dive into the amazing world of open science, explore research opportunities, and join a network of scientists breaking boundaries. The future of Nigerian science is open! #OSCNigeria #OpenScience. 'More than three years after the coronavirus pandemic began, about half of the office space in the New York City metro area in June was occupied, according to Kastle Systems, a security-card company tracking activity in office buildings. The hollowing out of the city’s cubicles has raised existential economic and cultural questions, but also a big logistical one: What do you do with all that office furniture?'

'Compared to Clarence Thomas’s gifts from the richest 1 percent of Nazi memorabilia enthusiasts, the sudden payment of Brett Kavanaugh’s extravagant credit card debts, or Samuel Alito’s propinquity to hedge fund billionaires, apparently the decision to take out loans to get an education is unforgivable.'
PNAS commentary on the first year of their Consultative Peer Review Pilot
'The pilot is designed to encourage the submission of research that is sufficiently multidisciplinary and presents a challenge in finding reviewers, is counter to a prevailing view, or is too far ahead of its time to receive a fair review. Authors whose work qualifies for this review option can submit through the pilot to have their work thoroughly and efficiently reviewed by experts in the fields most relevant to their research.'
