Another immune molecule with a perfectly good day job goes moonlighting in the nervous system:

“In the 16th century, corn was much more important than grapes,” he said. “On rock and granite, where corn wouldn’t grow, that’s where they planted vines. Those farmers were much more intelligent. They had a place for corn, a place for cows, a place for vines. Now, vines are everywhere.”

'Is Austria the least safe European country? “Yes,” he replies. “While we [Bellingcat] were investigating the Austrians, they were surveilling me and I wasn’t aware of that at the time. They were doing so explicitly at the request of the Russians. That is deep penetration.”

"The immune system is a compelling and apt subject for a systems biology approach to research, as it is a distributed, multiagent system with emergent properties. It is a complex adaptive system (CAS), self-organized, and regulated by dynamical interactions of individual cells with a capacity to respond to environmental changes both collectively and individually"

Optogenetic activation of the circuit (POATacr1 neurons) increased investigation of a 5 mL Eppendorf tube without inducing mounting . Strikingly, outfitting the Eppendorf tube with the tail-end of a toy mouse induced mounting during light epochs.

Eppendorf Tubes as an object of desire?

"The suit failed. When called upon to issue a ruling in the Youngstown case, Judge Lambros turned on his own suggestion. There just was no precedent in US law to say that the workers or the people really had such a ‘community property right’. Lambros was torn between his moral sense that they should have one, and his professional duty as a judge to find that the law (then as now) recognised no such right. Youngstown Works shuttered for good."

'Becker was not a purveyor of broadly telegraphed social messages or portentous psychologizing, and his films could not be mistaken for anyone else’s: “Every one of Jacques Becker’s films is a Jacques Becker film…. What happens to Becker’s characters is of less importance than the way it happens to them.”

"Data from the last decade shows that 96% of murders in the U.S. linked political to extremism are committed by right-wing actors. Recent polling suggests, however, that more than half of 2020 Trump voters surveyed believe the opposite is true."

"Para tomar perspectiva y averiguar qué parte del envejecimiento es particular de cada especie y qué parte es compartida por muchas, los investigadores aplicaron estos relojes de metilación de ADN a 15.000 muestras de tejido de 348 especies de mamíferos y compararon los cambios epigenéticos en regiones del genoma, conservadas durante millones de años de evolución, que compartimos con los ratones o los perros."

'I decided to put the inspiration question directly to five scientists and five artists. I asked the scientists what work of art inspired them, and the artists what in science inspired them. Their answers, in their own words, are personal, idiosyncratic, and driven by deep curiosity, just like science and art themselves.'

This is the last day of my Twitter account. I have over 52K followers there, but I can't remain on a platform that pays people like Andrew Tate to post. I do this knowing it significant limits my reach in the academic community, but the standard you walk past is the one you accept.
