More than 100 dolphins dead in Amazon as water hits 102 degrees Fahrenheit

The dead dolphins were all found in Lake Tefé over the past seven days, according to the Mamirauá Institute, a research facility funded by the Brazilian Ministry of Science.

Researchers and activists are trying to rescue surviving dolphins by transferring them from lagoons and ponds in the outskirts to the main body of the river where the water is cooler...

Please dont write sentences like this. 'An Italian university' has a name, just like Harvard.

"Dr. Gino was something of an academic late bloomer. After growing up in Tione di Trento, a small town in Italy, she earned a Ph.D. in economics and management from an Italian university in 2004, then did a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Business School."

“It became the custom in such cases to give credit solely to the one who actually made the experiment work, even if others may have also conceived the idea. It was the drosophilists’ golden rule. Ideas that were engendered in the group’s informal shoptalk were treated as communal resource and not as personal property.”

Merck filed a biologics license application for sotatercept in pulmonary arterial hypertension & now the FDA has granted it priority review.

I wrote about the drug last fall for Nature Medicine:

"BMPR-II regulates apoptosis and has anti-proliferative effects on pulmonary smooth muscle and endothelial cells. Sotatercept should assist BMPR-II in its tug-of-war with another TGF-beta family member, ActRIIA (which promotes proliferation), by selectively trapping activin pathway ligands. Unlike existing therapies that provide symptomatic management, sotatercept has the potential to be a curative treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension by modifying the underlying causes of the disease."

"Natural proteins are composed of 20 proteinogenic amino acids and their post-translational modifications (PTMs). However, due to the lack of a suitable nanopore sensor that can simultaneously discriminate between all 20 amino acids and their PTMs, direct sequencing of protein with nanopores has not yet been realized."
