And lower risk of cardiac complications among the vaccinated group during Omicron periods
Annals of Internal Medicine just published our epidemiological study of vaccine effectiveness in children and teens during the delta and omicron waves
The study found strong vaccine effectiveness vs. infection, severe disease, and ICU with no evidence of increased risk of cardiac outcomes.
Senior authors are Yong Chen, Christopher Forrest, and Jeffrey S Morris, and Lead authors are Qiong Wu and Jiayi (Jesse) Tong.
🇳🇿New Zealand: Complacency, waning immunity contribute to 5th wave - Epidemiologist Michael Baker
"Baker said many people seemed oblivious to the pandemic's existence - but complacency would not keep people safe"
"The reality is it's here the whole time"
"Things were very open from the first meeting. Initially, it was important to establish what the major findings were and that there was synergy. After that, we were able to focus on completing our studies—having confidence that our papers would complement and not compete. This was all helped by getting together approximately a year before we ended up submitting. Having a long period of cooperation helped shape two papers that truly complemented one another."

So many people I know have gotten COVID badly in this current wave. PLEASE take precautions like wearing a mask in crowded places, do not interact with humans when sick, etc etc.
Yeah I have changed my behavior since the start of the pandemic, and continue to be cautious bc COVID kicks my ass. I haven’t been 100% healthy since I first got it in 2020. I have asthma and bad immune system but even if you’ve got a good one, COVID can still really hurt you.

"Near the end of the “Manet/Degas” exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, there is a small drawing by Edgar Degas of a bearish man with a beard. At first glance, you might think the man in the drawing is Edouard Manet, but in fact he’s an author and critic named Edmond Duranty. Nine years before this drawing was created, Duranty had written something critical of Manet, in response to which Manet, encountering Duranty in a cafe, slapped him. Duranty demanded that Manet apologize. Manet refused. Durante challenged Manet to a duel. The duel, by sword, took place three days later. Manet was unscathed; I guess you could say he won. Duranty, the man in the Degas drawing, “received a wound in his upper chest,” as the museum text accompanying the drawing states matter-of-factly. I stared incredulously at the text’s last line: “Surprisingly, the two men remained friends after the incident.”'

#IDMastodon #NeuroCovid The periaqueductal gray (PAG), a key region of the endogenous analgesia system, exhibits pathological changes in different types of headaches . Therefore, it is reasonable to posit that the PAG may be involved in the #pathophysiology of #COVID19 headaches. To the best of our knowledge, this study represents the first exploration of PAG changes in patients with #COVID19 headaches.
