"Among those who took inspiration from King was Medgar Evers; they and Malcolm X formed what James Baldwin called the great trio of the civil rights movement. The connection between Evers and King has been lost to history. These two men, close in age but working for different organizations with different approaches to the civil rights movement, intersected in ways that lay bare the challenges the movement faced, particularly in the South, as it balanced the competing interests of Black Americans in cities with those of rural sharecroppers, donors, competing civil rights groups and politicians in Washington."

"Here, we identified a pattern of codon usage conserved across antibody genes. One feature thereof is the hyperutilization of codons that lack genome-encoded Watson-Crick transfer RNAs (tRNAs), instead relying on the posttranscriptional tRNA modification inosine (I34), which expands the decoding capacity of specific tRNAs through wobbling. Antibody-secreting cells had increased I34 levels and were more reliant on I34 for protein production than naïve B cells."

"International postdoctoral scholars play an important role in the biomedical research ecosystem and should have compensation and benefits that are equal to that of their counterparts who are U.S. citizens/U.S. permanent residents and access to more federal grant opportunities to support their research careers."
Four miles south of Taos, in New Mexico, you can find San Francisco de Asís Mission Church. The church was built between 1772 and 1815 by Fransiscan friars.
If you think this picture looks familiar, it may be because I took it as an hommage to Georgia O'Keefe and Ansel Adams, who both produced images of the church in the late 1930s.
If you look at the replies to this post, you can see versions by both of them.
"The three-year fellowship provides Ph.D.s from data science, computer science, physics, mathematics, and many other fields the mentorship and support to pursue their own research interests with our data.
Applications for the Fall 2024 cohort are due on February 1st, 2024."

"A general consensus is emerging that plasticity in the cerebellar cortex and nuclei most likely work together, probably with other forms of synaptic and non-synaptic plasticity, to support various aspects of behavioral learning and keep cerebellar circuit activity balanced under physiological conditions."

To give you an idea of just how different the Pirola family of variants is, this antigenic cartography graph shows JN.1 way down in the far right corner, far away from the HV.1 Eris variant (mid-right) that JN.1 just displaced. H/T: @yunlong_cao
Each box in the chart represents a 2x decrease in efficacy, so the further away a variant is from another, the less cross-reactivity there will be in antibodies generated from exposure to that variant. 3/
"South Korea inadvertently illustrated this point when a government program, starting in 1999, offered free screenings for several common cancers. A thyroid-cancer screening wasn’t included, but many patients opted to add one for a fee. Between the early nineties and the early twenty-tens, rates of thyroid cancer soared fifteenfold—a development that would have been worrying, except that death rates from thyroid cancer never rose, and remained very rare."

'This implies that neutrophils infiltrating a tissue niche follow a common path, merging their different functional states into a single terminal phenotype as guided by the tissue. Within the tumor, this deterministic program likely ensures a continual supply of pro-angiogenic T3 neutrophils that fuel tumor growth.'
